Not at all. When I'm watching a game, I dont have my calculator out. But I enjoy reading and thinking about the statistical side of things, and find that it enlightens me about all the nuanced ways in which players contribute to a win.

Rockies announced that Story is their OD shortstop. With them extremely unlikely to contend, why not sign a Brendan Ryan or Clint Barmes, then give the job to Story to not waste his service time?
Jeffrey Todd
4:52
I think he's ready for the chance now. You can't always just decide based on service time. This isn't quite like Jose Fernandez, where he was a super prospect. Story is getting hyped now but hasn't always been considered a significant young player.
4:53
So, put him in there, see what you get, and if he runs with it then you shrug your shoulders, call yourself lucky, and enjoy your six years.
It is mighty tempting just to keep him down for the two weeks, though!

Whats up with the DBacks trying to opt out of their stadium lease?
Jeffrey Todd
4:55
It's a money grab, pure and simple. I mean, I guess it's hard to blame teams for taking the cash when municipalities are dumb enough to keep forking it over, but it is one of the elements of the sport that I have trouble with.

Jeff - any more insight to your legal career? I'm a new lawyer myself and just curious! Apologies if I'm encroaching into personal territory!
Jeffrey Todd
4:56
Find me on twitter and we can talk there ... I can complain about the law for days! (It's not that bad, really.)
Taylor
4:56
How many questions do you get? i jump on these once in a while and hardly ever get answered. Im assuming you get flooded which is why they dont get answered often.
Jeffrey Todd
4:56
Thousands? Trying my best!

Blake Snell seems to get overlooked as far as pitching prospects go. Is there a good reason for that?
Jeffrey Todd
4:57
It happens. Dallas Keuchel happens, too.
Snell had to iron some things out. Some guys like that do. Many don't. And that's just to get to top prospect status ... who knows how he'll transition to the majors?

Any chance there is an impact move between now and opening day a la the Kimbrel deal last year?
Jeffrey Todd
4:59
Baseball dealmaking is the wild west these days, so I wouldn't rule it out.
Trevor
4:59
Any chance the O's try and trade Kim for a high floor player who can play left field right away?
Jeffrey Todd
5:00
Who would give up such a player (assuming roughly equal costs)? Kim isn't exactly a high ceiling guy. I think the idea was he's got good plate discipline and might be a solid 2-win type. So it isn't like some other team is going to grab him in hopes he'll turn into a star.
Plus he's only got two years of control - his contract doesn't allow for arb. So there's no upside there.

What is the prognosis on Gausman? Does tendinitis in the shoulder usually lead to bigger issues?
Jeffrey Todd
5:01
Not necessarily - it isn't some huge red flag. Carson Smith is a bigger concern in the division.
As things stand, that is. Obviously any significant shoulder issue would be worse.

Odds Jeff francouer hits us 30 homers
Jeffrey Todd
5:02
He already hit you 78 in years past. Don't get greedy.

Lots of posts lately about the Article XX(B) guys. Do any of the cuts look like good bets to sign a major league deal elsewhere instead of another minors deal like Venable did.
Jeffrey Todd
5:03
Sometimes the dudes who get cut loose end up with MLB deals, just b/c it's so close to the season. Aaron Harang with the Braves, pre-2014, is one that I seem to recall off the top of my head.

I haven't eaten in the past hour, I'm starving!
Jeffrey Todd
5:04
You and me both, brother. I am going to wrap this up soon to get a bite to eat ...
Josh
5:05
As a practicing attorney, I can tell you for sure that it IS that bad.
Jeffrey Todd
5:05
Like I said, I did it for five years. I get it. Not for everyone, that's for sure.
Jerry
5:05
What u think about the Phillies
Jeffrey Todd
5:06
So many thoughts ... where to begin ...
Ian
5:07
How valuable is a manager to a team? What's the win difference between a good and bad manager?
Josh
5:07
Why is it, that when a man kills another man in battle it's heroic, but when he kills in the heat of passion, it's murder?
I submitted 10 questions. 0 were answered.
Jerry
5:07
Jeff u never answer any of my questions
Jeffrey Todd
5:07
It's getting very philosophical, and very heated in here ...
Three more question and I'm out!
Jeff
5:07
Jays starting pitching enough to win, or will they need to upgrade at deadline?
