Does Theo Epstein become the highest paid executive?
Jeffrey Todd
2:44
Think about how rare it is for organizations to tip their hand. Both Ricketts and Theo have been saying "it'll get done" for months. And yes, becoming highest-paid is inevitable.
2:45
With all the excitement in Chicago -- they were drawing, what, 12-15k per game this spring? -- the $$$ is coming in hand over fist. And there's more on the way. That's only happening b/c the team is so exciting.
(Well, not only, but mostly. It was all timed perfectly.)

Keith Law and others are calling for Gibbons to be fined and suspended for his "sexist comments" after the Bautista situation. Do you think he'll get suspended?
Jeffrey Todd
2:47
No, I don't. And I don't personally think he should be fined or suspended. But those kinds of comments aren't okay at all by me and I think that should be stated.

2:47
Is the fans league wide elation and panic after two games funny or sad to you.
Jeffrey Todd
2:47
Eh, it's what makes it fun to be a fan.
For some, anyway. I'm mostly ... bemused, maybe?
Ryan
2:48
Does Andrew Cashner get a QO?
Jeffrey Todd
2:49
Very much up in the air, but I'll guess he does end up getting one. There's an air of Samardzija about him -- like, lots of teams are going to think he can still harness his potential. Of course, very different health background and such. But I still see him as a very viable QO candidate (first start notwithstanding).

If Trevor Story continues to produce, is there any chance the Rockies settle with him long term and trade Brendan Rodgers for pitching? Or is Story more likely to be traded?
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
Now this is truly getting carried away. Rodgers is way, way off.
2:51
Just try to bear in mind timelines. If Story is great, and Rodgers is great, when does this pose a conflict? Best case, probably, Rodgers sees the majors in what, 2019? They won't even control Arenado and LeMahieu by then.
(I mean, one more year of Nolan, but you see the point.)

2:52
David Wright is the most overrated player in MLB.
Jeffrey Todd
2:52
No, he's a truly excellent player who is now dealing with significant uncertainty because he's going to be playing through an injury that probably won't get better.

2:53
do you think swanson, nick williams, roman quinn or josh bell will make it to the big leagues by summer?
Jeffrey Todd
2:53
Guesses: no-maybe-maybe-no

2:54
How does an owner allow a GM to sign a player that eats up 50% of your payroll, Greinke that is.
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
It's not that much of the payroll -- more like a third -- but in this case it seems the owner more or less directed the GM to do that.
2:55
With the latest move on the new ballpark, can't help but feel like there are bigger forces at work.
Fire Ryne
2:55
With this career resurgence this year what do you think Ryan Howard brings back at the deadline this July?
Jeffrey Todd
2:55
Just wanted to thank you for this question.
Mike
2:55
Indians and Angels could technically lineup for a Trout deal. Salazar + Bauer & Frazier has to start the talks!
Jeffrey Todd
2:56
Totally! Indians have the kinds of assets that would make sense. The ones you propose, though, would be like parts 3/4/5.
(Promise I'm done with Trout questions.)

How do you see the the Cubs outfield situation of Javier Baez,Jorge Soler,Matt Szczur (out of options) playing out after Baez returns from the DL? Someone get traded?
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
Seems like Hail Szczur is likely to end up DFAed, and they'll either trade him for cash considerations/ptbnl or hope he clears waivers.

2:58
What are the Diamondbacks going to do about A.J. Pollock? Do you see them going external?
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
Listen to today's podcast!

2:58
Speaking of the Bad News Bears, did you notice the advertisement for Bail Bonds behind the plate in San Diego?
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
No, but I only trust Chico's myself.
Gilligan
2:59
What did you think of Syndergaard tues? holy cow. Are we looking at a top 5 pitcher in MLB for the next several years?
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
I've always loved him, but that was next level for sure.
Zack Greinke
3:00
Over or under 2.30 ERA this season
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
Um, over.
Mike
3:00
Thoughts on Adonis Garcia of ATL, good start so far. No Trevor Story, but nice.
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
I happen to have seen several of his plate appearances, and I wasn't inspired by the swings he took to generate the results. Now, hitting a home run off a hanging Scherzer slider that you were initially fooled on - on a warm day - is something, for sure.
3:03
We'll obviously need a much larger sample.
