I realize you run a site called MLB TRADE RUMORS, but can you advise everyone (gently) to understand that most trades are gonna happen closer to the trade deadline? It's wild out there these days, but almost nobody trades away good pieces in April or May.
Jeffrey Todd
5:41
Well, I do try to suggest that, but on the other hand it is fun to think ahead. And things always seem to move quicker than we think. (I also am but an employee of the site.)
Michael

Was there ever a chance Sale would get traded?
Jeffrey Todd
5:42
Never seemed particularly likely to me.
JD
5:42
Safe to say if Bourn is to land with any team it would be Arizona?
Jeffrey Todd
5:43
Makes some sense for obvious reasons, but it's often hard to guess how these kinds of things will work out. All depends on whether or not they think he's any kind of upgrade on their current situation; if so, then you have to think ARI has the best opportunity for playing time.

Ten seconds into its entire duration, please grade the Greinke signing.
Jeffrey Todd
5:44
I had already graded it as a D before he took the mound. Just not a fan of a limited-payroll org tying up that much salary in an aging pitcher.
(An awesome pitcher, too, of course. But nevertheless ...)

Do the Dodgers stand pat with their bullpen or look to make some moves?
Jeffrey Todd
5:45
The Dodgers always make moves. It's part of what makes baseball fun.
They just called up Adam Liberatore, too, if that's what you meant.
Guessing not.
Jake
5:46
Will the Red Sox eventually trade Chris Young to make room for Castillo?
Jeffrey Todd
5:46
Not really a plausible scenario, though I suppose it isn't completely impossible. If Rusney can show he's ready at least to be a useful member of the roster, and a need arises, then he'll be back. Quite a different situation than Pablo.
Michael
5:47
Is Jeremy Hazelbaker the real deal?
Jeffrey Todd
5:48
Not likely, but he could be a productive player even if he's not a quality regular. He did have a nice year last year in the minors, but never really had before and he's closing in on age 29 and just debuted.

PSA: @hankschulman
Romo going on DL with flexor strain in elbow. Won't throw at least 2 weeks. #sfgiants

How Long will Kepler stay in the big League?
Jeffrey Todd
5:49
Difficult to say, but he probably has a chance to push someone else off of the roster and stick all year.

5:49
Thoughts on the Belt extension?
Jeffrey Todd
5:50
I was never totally sure they would feel it necessary, in large part b/c of the question of how long Posey will remain behind the plate. But from a value perspective, I can't argue too strongly. Dude can hit.
And I'm all for keeping Buster behind the plate, btw. He's just outstanding in every way, no reason to force him out onto the field unless/until there's a specific reason.

4 years/72 million for Edwin Encarnacion extension?
Jeffrey Todd
5:52
Don't think that would have been enough to get it done. But it's slightly to the lower side of what I'd guess to be his likely free agent take if he has a typical season.
Largely a moot point now, it seems, from the Jays' perspective.

Is the Kyle Schwarber injury any indictment on Maddon's anyone can play any where philosophy? Schwarber really should not have been in left.
Jeffrey Todd
5:53
I disagree. His bat was ready and he's hardly the worst outfielder in baseball. Heck, he nearly made the catch on that very play. These things happen.
5:54
Re Bourn ... @nickpiecoro
Dave Stewart says the team is determining if Bourn might be an upgrade over what they already have.
scott
5:54
How good does the Matt Latos signing look right now?
Jeffrey Todd
5:55
He hasn't exactly been dominant, though the results are obviously great. But I liked the signing at the time. Good risk for a team that needed another arm.

5:56
What does the trade value for tyson ross look like after his injury?
Jeffrey Todd
5:57
Shoulder issues can obviously be big trouble. If this was mid-July, it would be a major issue. He's still got time to return and prove his health/effectiveness, though, so don't freak out just yet.
Hoss
5:57
Should I trade Trevor Story from my fantasy team now?
Jeffrey Todd
5:57
Yes.
5:58
I mean, he should still produce some numbers b/c he is reasonably talented and plays at Coors, but this isn't quite like Correa making good on his promise.

Am I correct to say that the Rangers are foolish for playing chicken with Beltre?? My chest hurts just thinking about him playing somewhere else...
Jeffrey Todd
5:58
I don't think he's a player they have to have, because they have so many options coming up through the system. So, I think it makes sense to hold out for the right price. And they can always tag him with a QO after the season and re-sign him, or pursue a deal later in the year.

5:59
Is there a reason on why not trading draft picks was in the CBA to begin with? I don't see a logical reason behind it...
Jeffrey Todd
6:00
You know, I'm not really sure of the full reasoning, but I guess it's a competitive balance consideration. I think teams are able to make those kinds of determinations for themselves, so I think some loosening is in order. The ability to trade comp picks and international signing slots could be a sign that the rules will continue to free up over time.
