The trades that are "losses," I think, are the ones that were ill-conceived at the outset. Sometimes Noah Syndergaard turns into Thor, and you knew there was an x% chance of that, and you shrug your shoulders.

Too many Cubs questions!!!!
Jeffrey Todd
2:37
Please rephrase as a question so I can answer it. GO CUBS!

Any carl crawford news? Someones got to sign him right?
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
Wouldn't be surprised if he signs quick if someone really wants him. Otherwise, he can take his time and look for the best opportunity. Not like he's going to be jumping at the bit to go play at AAA.
Matt Klentak
2:39
Jake Diekman and Jared Eickhoff look like 2 really good players -- yet both were throw-ins, in the same trade!
Jeffrey Todd
2:39
Are you sure they were throw-ins?
Sam
2:39
Who, other than the Yanks big three, should the Nationals be looking at as a trade piece?
Jeffrey Todd
2:39
Basically any good reliever that is available.
2:40
They don't have a huge need -- the pen has been quite good -- but there isn't another glaring area to add and there's no reason not to go get a stud. They also should have a good bit of cash available -- payroll down against prior years -- so I'd expect them to put that to use in order to avoid giving up prospects, to the extent possible.
Nats
2:41
What would the Nats need to give up in order to get an elite type closer I.e. Chapman/Miller? Jon Heyman went as far as to suggest Trea Turner!
Jeffrey Todd
2:41
I never saw him suggest that, but that's not happening. It is all about market competition. Sox got ERod from O's because they were going toe to toe with Tigers for Miller. (Also ERod perceived value was down a bit at the time.)
Afternoon Nap Guy
2:42
Would Nick Markakis be a good fit with Boston in a platoon role?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
There are other guys that would be equally serviceable platoon mates for Chris Young. They aren't going to take on that contract to get him.
White Sox
2:43
Can we expect anything significant from Morneau when he is ready to play?
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
I mean, you have to discount his recent numbers at Coors, and the injuries/age keeps adding up, but he ought to be a productive hitter still. I wouldn't expect him to go wild, though.
Sideshow Bob
2:44
Any chance Joc Pederson could be made available?
Jeffrey Todd
2:44
Not a particularly good one.

What does Texas focus on at the trade deadline mid rotation starter or bullpen help
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
I think they need to explore both. Look past the ERAs and there's cause for concern in the rotation, esp with Darvish questions. At least another middle reliever would be nice, too -- could add a better pen arm and bump everyone else down, but that's not necessary.
Arizona
2:46
So, what's going on with me? I gave Zack a ton of money. And now I suck. Rebuild or what?
Jeffrey Todd
2:47
Build a new ballpark to get more money to paper over the issues that everyone was raising while you were doing those things?
Tyler
2:47
Any chance the Mets and Padres match up on a Solarte deal?
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
Seems like a lateral move. Nothing wrong with Flores, but they are running a bit short of depth and now they have a pretty boring infield. Solarte wouldn't change that other than adding another useful piece, but they already got KJ. Should go bigger.
Slope
2:48
Longtime lurker, first time asker... Boston needs a left handed bat. What candidates are out there? Do you assume like me that it will be a small depth option, not a big move to fill?
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
DD's first deadline in Beantown - your guess is as good as mine.
Bud Selig
2:49
Has the new guy screwed up anything yet?
Jeffrey Todd
2:49
I chortled.

Which beat writers are must follows on Twitter?
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
Oooooh good question!
Guys who are worth paying attention to even if they don't cover your team ... I'll name a few.
2:52
Derrick Goold, Alex Speier, Nick Piecoro, and of course our former guy Ben Nicholson-Smith.
some of my personal favs
tons of great ones out there
Phil
2:52
Would Jon Jay and Fernando Rodney to the Giants be enough to get AA ss prospect Christian Arroyo? Both Jay and Rodney are on super cheap one year deals, and fit Giants' needs. Jay more so, but what team couldn't use a shut down reliever like Rodney?
Jeffrey Todd
2:52
Nah.
Matt Kemp
2:53
Fan Graphs hates Matt Kemp -- what say you. Hes on pace for 220 RBI - ( 2015 & 2016 combined)
Jeffrey Todd
2:53
I don't hate the man, but I'd be on that side of the argument.
2:54
Sorry, sifting through all the questions about different package trade scenarios ... not sure why that's become so popular.

Is Joe Panik overrated?
