Would you rather take Seager or Trout?
Steve Adams
3:44
Are we considering contracts/remaining club control? If we are, I'd have to give tons of consideration to Seager. If you're asking in a vacuum, I'd take Trout over anyone in baseball.
Pete
3:44
Turkey or ham?
Steve Adams
3:44

Does Ryan Merritt have enough trade value to bring a high quality-short term cf or 1B?
Steve Adams
3:45
Not on his own. I mean the ALCS performance will go down as legendary, but he's still a soft-tossing lefty that most teams view as a fifth starter at best and more likely as a swingman/depth piece.

3:45
Could you see Fowler signing in Toronto?
Steve Adams
3:46
If he's willing to play a corner, that's the best fit there is for him in my mind. They have the money, they need to upgrade their corner OF defense, the lineup could use some balance and speed -- Fowler is a perfect fit for the Jays.

3:46
Brandon Moss to the Phillies?
Steve Adams
3:47
I can see it because they need a platoon partner for Joseph and he could get some corner OF work, too. Might prefer to find somewhere with a better shot at contending though.

Jeff Todd suggested the Nationals as a fit, and I love that actually. Platoon with ZImmerman at 1B and Werth in LF and provide some insurance if Zim and/or Werth miss time due to injury (which sadly feels like a near certainty).

Reports say Trumbo's market is "buzzing" or something along those lines. Am I the only one who doesn't see the appeal?
Steve Adams
3:49
You are not. Unless you think he's a plus defender at first, he's a one-dimensional bat that doesn't really have a position and doesn't walk enough to even post a league-average OBP. Plus, with his strikeout rate and infield-fly rate, he gives away far too many plate appearances. Some team is probably going to give him $15MM annually, which blows my mind.

3:49
Any more talk about a possible Sonny Gray trade?
Steve Adams
3:50
It's just so difficult to imagine, because teams aren't going to want to pay full price coming off a down year, and the A's aren't going to want to sell low. Anything can happen at the Winter Meetings and I'm sure he'll be discussed ad nauseum, but agreeing on a price point is going to be really hard for Oakland.
Braves starters
3:50
Would an Albies, Touissant, Newcombe, and 10-15 prospect be enough to pry Archer from the Rays to the Braves
Steve Adams
3:50
Not for me.
3:51
Archer has five years of control remaining at a max of $38.5MM, and the last two years are club options. That's a hilariously team-friendly deal.

3:51
How much lower would your asking price be for Quintana than for Sale?
Steve Adams
3:52
Not much if at all. They're owed about the same money and Quintana has an extra year of control. Even if you think Sale is better -- and i do -- the difference between them isn't staggering from a talent perspective, and the extra year of control has huge value.

3:52
Steve, Name 1 player in your opinion, other than Sale, that could be a big surpise to be traded?
Steve Adams
3:53
Can it be all that surprising if I'm reasonably predicting it?

Vince Velasquez comes to mind, I guess. But even he had his name come up in trade talks this past summer, so he can't be considered a total shock.
James
3:53
Any guess on where former Angels Weaver and Wilson land?
Steve Adams
3:54
Wilson .... Mariners? He was a Dipoto guy.

Weaver I don't know -- pick your favorite NL team with a big park. Marlins?
Josh
3:54
Do the mariners revisit a cozart deal with the reds?
Steve Adams
3:55
Yeah I think they will.
Happy
3:55
Will the Brewers find a trade partner for Braun this offseason? I see the Dodgers match waning by the day, honestly.
Steve Adams
3:56
Giants make a lot of sense if the Dodgers don't pan out. I think they'll be motivated to move him now that his value is back up a bit and they've shipped out the remainder of their quality veterans for the most part.

3:56
Have you heard any rumblings about the DH in the NL coming up in collective bargaining talks? That would throw this market a curveball...
Steve Adams
3:56
Nah not for the current slate of CBA talks.
Astros fan
3:56
Would Alex Bregman being traded shock you? Could see it for Sale
Steve Adams
3:57
Bregman would shock me, yeah. But he's probably who the Sox would ask for if/when the Astros come calling. (Realistically, they probably already inquired)
Stringer Bell
3:57
Does Vogelbach start at first base this year for the Mariners?
Steve Adams
3:57
In some kind of platoon capacity, yeah I think so
Greg
3:57
Twins in on Jason Castro?
Steve Adams
3:58
Yeah, though they apparently hadn't made offers to any free agents as of earlier this week. But Falvey is a huge pitch-framing guy, and Castro's among the best at it. And with the need to rework the entire pitching staff, that'd be a nice kind of subtle way to help everyone out.
Suzuki is a terrible framer, so the upgrade to Castro would be notable for them.
Rockies Fan
3:58
Who do you see the Rockies snagging to play 1B, especially given the QO attached to many of the big bats. And why do you hate Story so much? The kid put up better offensive AND defensive numbers than Seager until he got injured.
Steve Adams
4:01
Considering Corey Seager better than Trevor Story means I "hate" Story? Story struck out in nearly a third of his plate appearances and is boosted significantly by playing at Coors. Seager tops him in average and OBP considerably while playing in a pitcher-friendly park. He's just a better player -- it's nothing against Story.
Joe
4:01
What kind of deal do you see Matt Wieters getting and from who?
Steve Adams
4:02
I think he'll get four years, which makes me cringe. Nationals, Rockies, Orioles (if they trade Sisco for OF/SP help), Twins, White Sox -- lots of teams looking for catching help. Braves too. I'd lean Nationals right now given their need and the fact that Boras has a good connection with the Lerner family.
