Steve Adams

Yasmani Grandal is one of the best catchers in baseball and one of the most underrated players in the game.
Bleacher Bum
4:28
What player who's career was shortened by either injury or misfortune do you wish you could have seen more of?
Steve Adams
4:29
Kirby Puckett?

Does Ken Griffey Jr. count? He played for a long time but injuries trashed the second half of his career. (And he's still one of the best to ever play)

4:29
Where would you vision Billy Butler playing this year and is he still worth signing?
Steve Adams
4:30
Signing with the Rays? He'd only cost a team the league minimum, since the A's are paying the rest of the tab in 2017. For that price, sure, I don't blame anyone for seeing if there's anything left in the tank. Don't know that I'd give him an especially long leash.

Nick Adenhart
Steve Adams
4:31
Indeed. Or Taveras, Fernandez, Ventura -- a lot of really sad news in the past few years.
Petet
4:31
Do you think Burdi could get a shot at the twins bullpen, if he has a good spring training?
Steve Adams
4:31
He didn't pitch much last year because of shoulder troubles, so I'd expect they want him to get some time in AAA before throwing him right into the fire.
Prince Albert
4:32
Will I make it to the 700 HR club when it's all said and done?
Steve Adams
4:33
I'll say yes. He's 109 short and has five guaranteed years on the deal. Even assuming injuries and decline, that's 22 per season through 2021, which isn't outlandish at all, especially if he puts up another 25-30 this year and gets ahead of that pace. Pujols' skills are clearly declining, but he's homered 71 times in the past two seasons
M's fan
4:35
Who do you will be the M's closer this year?
Steve Adams
4:35
Edwin Diaz is a freaking monster.
tad_2B_13
4:35
Brandon Crawford was never a top 100 prospect.
Steve Adams
4:35
Another good one who was never Top 100
(There are tons of those, though, obviously... as I noted before
Wade
4:36
How do you see Ryon Healy's season going this year?
Steve Adams
4:36
Lots of time at 1B/DH, lots of homers, fairly big drop in average/OBP.
Matt
4:36
What do you think of the Brandon Phillips trade to the braves
Steve Adams
4:37
Makes sense for both sides. The Reds all but released him, with the amount of money they're sending to Atlanta in the deal. And it's the right call to force a spot for Peraza. Another full year of Phillips blocking him was just unacceptable, given the team's current state.

For the Braves, sure -- why not add a veteran for $1MM when you know S-Rod won't play for much (if not all) of the season? I'm fine with it for both sides.
Manny Machado
4:37
Where do you see me in 2 years after FA
Steve Adams
4:38
Predicting free agent destinations in the actual winter they're on the open market is a largely a crapshoot. Two years out is an exercise in futility.
Dgrfns
4:38
Any chance Dodgers sign Blanton or are they maxed out?
Steve Adams
4:38
If it's a cheap one-year deal, sure, I bet they'd make room.
ryan
4:39
what do you think Machado's AAV is in free agency?
Steve Adams
4:39
Record-setting. $400MM+. Multiple opt-outs. Whatever he wants. His agents at MVP have to be licking their chops.
Snarfle
4:39
I had forgotten about the annual TJ parade. I hope this year isn't as bonkers as 2016.
Steve Adams
4:39
2016 was better than 2015. Hopefully 2017 continues that downward trend.
AJ
4:39
Is Matt Adams traded before opening day?
Steve Adams
4:41
Doubt it. Is he demonstrably better than Adam Lind or Logan Morrison? Not especially, and Lind just signed for 1.5MM while Morrison took $2.5MM -- both less than Adams is due to make, and neither requiring the forfeiture of any young talent.
Snarfle
4:41
Assuming we get a smattering of injuries, who gets traded preseason? Bruce? Robertson?
Steve Adams
4:42
Depends entirely on who is injured, and there's zero way of predicting that, so I'm not going to pretend like I'm able to. Not the answer you were looking for I'm sure, but there's no way to know that kind of thing.
Mr. Redlegs
4:42
Who's your favorite mascot in baseball?
Steve Adams
4:43
That monstrosity in Arizona always makes me laugh, but not in a good way. (D-Baxter? What the hell)

I'm partial to Bernie Brewer and the Phillie Phanatic, I suppose. If we can expand to all sports, then Stuff the Magic Dragon (Orlando Magic) and Crunch (Minnesota Timberwolves) immediately burst onto the scene
Sam
4:43
Ervin Santana to the cards?
Steve Adams
4:45
He'd be a reasonable target for them, but they're already projected at $149MMish for Opening Day payroll. Can they add another $13.5MM? Might be a tall order, and the Twins would probably want a cheap, controllable MLB-ready starter in exchange.
Guest
4:45
Do the Pirates make anymore moves or are we waiting out the youth to develop in the majors?
Steve Adams
4:46
I never rule out depth moves for teams, but I don't think they're dealing McCutchen or trading for Quintana before Opening Day.
Rangers acquired Eddie Gamboa from the Rays. Gamboa was DFAed earlier today.
Hooray knuckleballers!
