I think the tone of today's discussion would be a lot different if Hunwick hadn't been so brutal against Florida.
Steven
1:39
Do the Penguins now try to acquire a goaltender just in case Murray is hurt long term?
Jason Mackey
1:40
I think all along Rutherford kept an ear to the ground for goaltending depth -- in case this happened. That won't change. But the price will have to be right. We also don't know if he's hurt, at least seriously. He's being evaluated.
Kevin
1:40
With Murray being injured, does that change GMJR's plans in the next 2 hours as far as who he targets?
Jason Mackey
1:41
No, still has to be a reasonable option, in my opinion. Nothing drastic.

1:41
Do you think Tampa gets Karlsson trade completed?  If so does GMJR have to counter?
Sam Werner
1:41
I don't know if they will, but they should. I know the common logic is "Do it at the draft when you have a bigger market," but are you really going to have more leverage than now, when you can sell two Cup runs with Karlsson? I feel like "big moves happen at the draft" is conventional wisdom that never actually happens. NHL teams have a tendency to overplay their hand and end up frittering away leverage.

Do you think GMJR would like to trade Hunwick?  He was brutal on Saturday night.
Sam Werner
1:41
And re: the Penguins, I think the Brassard trade was the counter. TB getting Karlsson would be countering that.
Sean Gentille
1:42
It'd be really funny if Yzerman actually got Karlsson done without including Sergachev or Point.
Jason Mackey
1:43
I don't think he would be against it, but how many opposing GMs are watching that thinking, "Yeah, I want that on my team. For two more years? Oh, heck yeah."
Pinkie Pie
1:43
How comfortable do you think the Penguins are with their current defensive corps sans Cole? Do you see them making any upgrades - even a small one - to that position within the next couple hours?
Jason Mackey
1:44
Yes, I do. Nick Kypreos just reported they've inquired on Ryan McDonagh. Take that for what it is, but I do think they'll do something. They have to.
Bob
1:44
What do you think Rutherford will do
Jason Mackey
1:44
Get a defenseman, maybe Cullen. Then go get a burger at Five Guys.

Any chance we work something out for Max Domi. I know it’s not likely,  but given his skill and vision, I could see him and Sid really producing together.
Sam Werner
1:44
I feel like the word "inquired" is doing a lot of work in Kypreos' report. Checking the CapFriendly page and seeing McDonagh's contract might count as "inquiring."
Jason Mackey
1:44
I can't imagine Arizona would let him go.

1:44
has GMJR been publicly flogged in Pittsburgh for signing Matt Hunwick in the first place?
Jason Mackey
1:45
I hope not. If so, I haven't witness it. He's made no mention of it happened, either. You'd think that would end up on social media, no?
TK
1:45
Is the door still open on Cullen?  Where would he play?
Jason Mackey
1:45
Yes, it is. Although I don't think Minnesota is eager to deal with him. Likely left wing.
Bryan
1:45
It'll be interesting to see what GMJR has up his sleeve as the 3:00 trade deadline nears.
Jason Mackey
1:45
Correct. Always is with Jimmy.
Sean Gentille
1:45
"The highest-profile team in the league is looking at the biggest name on the market! Also, turn on Sportsnet, please."
Kevin
1:46
What are the chances pens get a forward and defenseman if so who
Eddie Shack
1:47
Matt Cullen still coming back by 3 PM?
Jason Mackey
1:47
If Minnesota is willing to deal him, yes. But it doesn't look like they are.
Gerard
1:47
If Rutherford pulls the trigger on another trade, what potentially are we giving up in return?
Ewok to remember
1:48
Did you see the Murray injury? Any idea of injury type?
Jason Mackey
1:48
Yes. Head. Took an Olli Maatta shot to the head. Would imagine he had to pass concussion tests, etc.
As for giving up ... it really depends on the deal. Tough to offer a blanket statement there.
GJ
1:49
Any chance of getting McDonagh?
Jason Mackey
1:49
If they could convince the Rangers to take Conor Sheary, it would work.

anyone else anxiously awaiting GMJR's next move?
Jason Mackey
1:50
I think pretty much everyone is anxiously awaiting GMJR's next move.

Can Sam the pilot go out to Toronto and get Brassard here ASAP?
Jason Mackey
1:50
Sam Werner? I didn't know he has his pilot's license.

Am I wrong for not being overly worried about Hunwick? He's been poor, but Schultz played 13:01 per game in the 2016 playoffs, in a very sheltered role (Sully didn't trust him at all). If they play Hunwick in the playoffs I think Sully will do similar with his ice time/role. He's a number 6, they can easily mitigate his impact.
Jason Mackey
1:51
If they play Tampa in the Eastern Conference finals -- and you know they will -- he's going to have to do something. Lightning are too deep. I think Schultz two years ago was much better than what Hunwick has shown so far this season. Yes, it could change. But we're kidding ourselves if we think he's been even OK.
