I addressed some this earlier, but I think it'll be tough to just make the best pure baseball decision with Tatis.

Do the Padres offer an extension to Yu Darvish, trade him at the deadline or let him go after 2023 ?
Darragh McDonald
12:51
I don't think they do anything right now. He'll turn 37 next year, so, might as well wait.
12:52
What kind of year does he have? What about the rest of the team?
Ryan
12:53
Should the "That's what's in" guys be banned from Petco Park for life?
Darragh McDonald
12:53
I couldn't even make it to the end of the video.

Jose Abreu to play 1B for SD?
Darragh McDonald
12:54
I've seen a few questions about Abreu. Obviously, he's a great hitter and would help the team. But it depends if they're serious about this Cronenworth thing.
Given the uncertainty, they might want someone who can move to another position if need be.
Bringing back Drury or Myers would make sense.
12:55
Someone like Donovan Solano could fit.

Does Suarez opt out of his contract or does he play for the Padres in 2023 knowing the potential the Padres have to making the playoffs?
Darragh McDonald
12:56
I think he has to opt out. He's about to turn 32 and just had an excellent year. This is his best chance at making some life-changing money.

what do you think about adding jesus aguilar at first base?
Darragh McDonald
12:57
I think the Padres can aim higher.

Do you think the Padres trade Soto to rebuild there farm system maybe in like his last year of Arbitration next year
Darragh McDonald
12:57
Not unless about 17 things have gone very wrong and the team is entering a full rebuild somehow.
Martinez
12:58
I started a lot of games this year.  I only moved to the bullpen when Clev and Snell were healthy.  Padres signed me as a starter.
Darragh McDonald
12:58
This is true but he might try to find a spot where getting bumped to the bullpen won't happen. Maybe that's in San Diego.

Does offering Manny $300m not help to show commitment in and of itself, even if they hadn't signed Hosmer first?
Darragh McDonald
12:59
Sure, but he probably had a couple of different offers in a similar range. If I remember correctly, the White Sox were also somewhere around there.
The money is still the most important thing, but showing a willingness to go for it has to help.

I'm in Toronto and people also say that signing Ryu helped them get Springer.
You can't really know for sure, but I think it does prove a little something.
I would imagine most players don't want to be in the Kris Bryant situation where they are well-paid but... you know.

do you see them going for a catcher or using campusano?
Darragh McDonald
1:01
There's been some scuttlebutt that teams have tried trading for Campusano without success.
I would guess they let Alfaro go this winter and Campusano gets some real run in 2023.
Not much left to prove in the minors at this point.

Realistically do you see the Padres going after a top SP like a deGrom or Verlander?  Rather than budgeting for a 4th and 5th, use the money for an ace and let Martinez be the 5th/
Darragh McDonald
1:02
At this point, I don't want to count the Padres out on anything. They've shown a willingness to put up money and prospects.
1:03
It depends how much they're willing to spend. They won't announce a fixed number, so we'll only be able to guess until it happens.
1:04
If they want to stay around the luxury tax line like they did in the past couple of years, they won't have a ton of payroll space. But maybe they're willing to blow past it. I don't know.

Who do you have winning the NL west next year?
Darragh McDonald
1:04
It's way too early but I'd probably lean Dodgers until giving reason to think otherwise.

do we have a shot at judge?
Darragh McDonald
1:05
Like I said, I don't want to rule anything out, but this feels unlikely.
1:06
They have a bunch of holes and I think it makes more sense to spread the money around, as opposed to making a huge splash.

Would Padres be willing to give the corner outfield opening to Michael Conforto ?
Darragh McDonald
1:06
I can see it, sure. But he makes sense for a lot of teams since it'll likely be a low-cost, high-reward type deal.
