I have zero idea but it is incredible to me how he continues to stay employed. Danny Smith's special teams have been terrible
Bud
12:39
Do you think the Steelers would consider drafting our future QB with our 1st round pick if they saw the chance to pick someone that may fall lower than expected? Might the Steelers trade up to do that?
Zeise
12:40
Yes and yes. I think if there is a quarterback that they believe can be their next franchise quarterback, they will go get him. They won't trade up like 10-15 spots but I could see them jumping up 3 or 4 if they feel it is necessary

Expecting the Steelers to stay in their current drafting spot in the 1st round, would you guess they draft best available of a running back, or offensive lineman?
Ralph
12:41
Do you ever think that A. McFarland will ever be a starting running back in the NFL?
Zeise
12:42
No and I think we all overestimated his skill set. I think he is
not going to be much more than a third/down change of pace back

Hi Paul. If Dwayne Haskins visits with the Steelers, does anything happen? Should anything happen?
Zeise
12:44
I doubt it, I really doubt it. They need to figure out what they have with respect to Ben Roethlisberger. If he isn’t coming back then they will need a guy like Haskins but they have to wait and see

Thanks Paul for the chats.  I gave a scenario last week on getting under the cap and you told me we would have to do more.  So how is this.  Cut Haden, Pouncey.  Sign Sutton, draft center/guard.  Banner and Ok tackles.  Sign center/guard.  Ben extends.  Draft stud RB.  Am i close?!?!
Zeise
12:45
Getting closer but do you want to move dead money for Ben down the road further?
TPHunter
12:45
Over and under on how many healthy D-men the Penguins have after this weekend?
Zeise
12:46
I would say 7 - they will have enough even if they have to dip into the reserves in Wilkes Barre
Jim Hersperger
12:47
Hi Paul, is there any chance Justin Champagnie sticks around for another season at Pitt before going pro?     Love to see what his potential could be and for the team's to be!
Zeise
12:48
I believe he will be back. He needs to work on a lot of things to become a bonafide NBA  player. That’s a different game and at his size he will need to become significantly better on the perimeter to become a high draft choice
Bud
12:48
Expecting Ben to come back next season, how far would you guess the Steelers spread out Ben's restructured contract to create salary cap space? 2 years, or maybe 3?
Zeise
12:50
I think if he comes back they will do everything in their power to fir under the cap with him. I just can’t believe they want to kick his money down the road any more
TPHunter
12:50
Rutherford said he isn't worried about Jarry's very slow start? Should he be?
Zeise
12:51
No not at all. It was 1 1/2 games or whatever. They haven’t had training camp and all these guys are rusty
Linda

As a newcomer to football, could you please explain “schemes” and “reading keys” which announcers use, but don’t define what they are.  Thank you!
Zeise
12:54
It is football jargon designed to make people listening to the broadcasts think those talking on broadcasts are experts. Schemes are basically the structure/alignment/philosophy of the offense or defense and reading keys is basically saying players are looking for certain things on the other side of the ball before the snap that tips them off as to what to prepare for every play

Do you think this is a make or break season for Mike Tomlin?
Zeise
12:54
No but I do think it could be his last year if that makes any sense

The Steelers prefer local ties which I view as good and bad. They are interviewing a former Detroit OL coach who also has local ties. I hope he isn't our only candidate as we need to find the best possible OL coach. Do you know if they are going to interview other candidates?
Zeise
12:55
It sounds like they are casting a wider net for offensive line coach than offensive coordinator

Thinking about the return for Musgrove. Why so much higher than for Bell? Will we see the Cole trade last for 15 years -> Cole for Musgrove+ -> Musgrove for Head + -> Head for ??
Zeise

Josh Bells value was always overrated. He was a bad fielder, decent hitter with some power and an average base runner. He is a DH waiting to happen. Musgrove is a pitcher who has proven he can win games. His best value is as a long reliever and I think that’s what he will eventually become

If Ben wants to play next season, who says no to him? Is it Rooney, MT, KC or maybe Randolph?
Zeise
1:02
I think if he wants to play the Steelers will welcome him back. I would be shocked if he plays beyond next year but I think if he wants to be back he will be
Lucky

Hue Jackson...really?  He may know x’s and o’s but he would bring the stigma of a coach associated with losing teams.
Zeise
1:03
He was a terrible head coach but he was a good offensive coordinator. I would have no issue if they hired him for that job. Not everyone is cut out to be a head coach
Southside Jimmy

Hi Paul, no question for you...just want know I totally support your idea of honoring Dick Groat.  He’s had quite a career playing pro basketball and pro baseball.  His college basketball number was the first to be retired by Duke and I enjoyed his time as the color snPitt basketball broadcasting with
Zeise
1:05
I love Dick and what he has meant to this city and Pitt. I hope they do something for him he deserves it
SB next year
1:05
Do you think we will hire Hue Jackson for another role if he is not hired as OC?
Zeise
1:06
I doubt it. I doubt he would be interested in anything less than a coordinator job
roy

If Ben comes back, how much voice he will have on JuJu, Pouncey, Ebron, etc?
Zeise
1:06
None. His days of being the GM are likely over. I will say he could have an influence on Pouncey because they are friends. So he may be able to talk Pouncey into another year but that's about it.

Now that the Pirates are in official rebuild mode i plan on attending more games.  Pirate fans have a right to be upset about the team not setting expectations.  But in some indirect way they have said they are rebuilding.  Enjoy the ambiance, good food and maybe get to see some rising stars.  Still wish the Pirates would just say it.  Setting expectations of a rebuild is much better than saying we are trying to compete.  No youre not, so stop saying it.
