I agree with you. I think they are not going to win a playoff series. I think there isn’t a good matchup for rhem

It seems that the Steelers are very interested in the Badger. To commit that much money to one position (expecting Fitzpatrick to get his deal later this year), they must believe that this will be a dominating defense, good enough to carry the team deep into the playoffs. Are they dreaming, or spot on?
Zeise
11:26
I don’t think he puts them over the top and helps them overcome their deficiency at quarterback. So I wouldn’t sign him and yes they are dreaming

Sorry, I think my Masters post went before it was ready. Anyway, should Tiger have been such a focus last week? The tournament was a disappointing snoozer aside from his comeback, in my opinion.
Zeise
11:31
Tiger is the biggest name in golf. He is the biggest star. He was in a horrific accident and fans thought they might not ever see him compete again. It was tremendous and by far the biggest story of the tournament

Hi Paul, your thoughts on Rod and Hines landing XFL head coaching jobs.  Think we'll see them in the NFL eventually?
Zeise
11:31
If it helps them both get a shot at being a coach in the NFL more power to them. Other than that I’m not sure what the point is

Pirates just signed Reynolds to two year contract.
Zeise
11:32
That is a very good sign. Do we know what the terms are?

You're scheduled for 18 holes on Sunday, but it is pouring rain. Do you play with an umbrella or roll at the bowling lanes?

Paul, I read a quote from Jordan Davis about his being only a 2 down player.  He said he can play 3 downs, but deferred at Georgia because of the wealth of talent on that team.  What do you think, Paul?
Zeise
11:33
Who am I to doubt him? But he didn’t play a lot of snaps at Georgia and that needs to be a part of his story

Pitt-West Virginia resuming their football rivalry is a good thing, but is there a chance that any of their ACC foes eventually develop into a big rival? I know it is supposed to be Syracuse, but that doesn't seem to develop. Maybe Miami?
Zeise
11:33
Syracuse is the rival right now
i think if Pitt could start beating Miami that could be a good one too

11:34
Two years, $13 M
Zeise
11:34
OK so that is probably about what they would have paid him in arbitration.

11:34
Better summer adult rec sport: softball or soccer?
Zeise
11:35
Soccer is better for your health and fitness. Softball has too many “softball guys” - the guys with the stirrups, the baseball pants, the hi-top spikes, the eye black and arm bands out there acting like it is the 7th game of the World Series
Bill
11:36
Reynold's signing is a great deal for the Piratdes, did Reynolds buy too low?
Zeise
11:36
No because he is still gonna be subject to arbitration next year. He didn’t give up a free agency year
kevin in Punxsy
11:36
Paul, in arbitration, the arbiter has to choose the teams offer of $4.25, or the players # at $4.9 M
Zeise
11:36
Yes, what does that mean?
The Real TP Hunter
11:37
Football teams seem to be leaning more toward analytics for scouting players. Is that going to work? It seems to me that no sport requires eyes and tape more than football. Like, there is fast, but then there is football fast.
Zeise
11:37
i think it can work but I also think old school scouting has to be a part of it. But it doesn’t have to be either/or

Hi Paul,  I would not draft Jordan Davis however I would draft an DT in the first round of the draft.  The other Georgia defenseman lineman would be my pick.  Davis weight problem bothers me.  What do you think.
Zeise
11:39
That is definitely something to monitor with him but watching him run a 4.6 or whatever at his size was impressive
kevin in Punxsy
11:39
Reynolds will be receiving $6.75 M per year instead of $4.9 M per year.  The big story is that Nutting kept his word and gave BR a VG 2 year deal.
Zeise
11:40
No. Arbitration is a year to year thing. He would get $4.9 this year. If he has the kind of season we think he will have, next year he could get $8-$9 million in arbitration.
ev
11:40
So, will Reynolds be dealt next summer?
Zeise
11:41
If he doesn’t get seal this summer
kevin in Punxsy
11:41
If Jordan Davis is available when the Ravens choose at #14-16 (I think) they will definitely take him.
Zeise
11:41
Defensive line is a position of need but so is offensive line and they need some playmakers
11:43
I would have liked the Pirates to sign Reynolds to a long term deal but it is a start
kevin in Punxsy
11:43
Paul, you are correct re: the amount BR would get in Arb next year would be determined by the year he has this year, thus, he could get more next year, the same, or less.
Zeise
11:44
Yeah that’s the big thing - this deal just sort of makes it so they don’t have to do arbitration next year with him

Does this Pen’s team, with great, but aging talent, keep up with the speed of Carolina or Florida if they get in a series? New York, I am honestly not worried about.
Zeise
11:48
The team that has seemingly been a bad matchup for the Pens has been the Rangers because of their speed and goalie. The other two the Pens can skate with though Florida is loaded with skill and offensive talent

Nutting told Jason that he wanted to try to sign BR to a 2-year contract at an acceptable salary to try to smooth things over with BR.
