Did you see Will Jeffress is now out 6 weeks with some injury? He has stunk the first 2 years here and now this. This was a 4 star recruit too. What's your take?
Zeise
12:43
Stunk is a tough word. He has certainly not lived up to the expectations. But some guys are late bloomers and he has two more seasons so I wouldn't give up on him yet.

My boyhood idol, Franco, was a terrible practice player. I believe Joe Paterno warned Chuck Noll about that before the Steelers took him. Is it possible that Devin Bush has turned into that type of player? He looked like a different guy Sunday, without the physical apathy he consistently showed in the preseason. Maybe the contract year has officially started for him Whaddya think?
Zeise
12:43
It is incredible that there is always a contract year that brings the best out of every single player. Amazing how that works

Do you think Matt Canada is a pro OC?  His offense is frustrating to watch.  Too many sideways plays.  The Steelers Oline does not get much of a push, but the playcalling does not seem to put them in position to succeed.
Zeise
12:44
I think he has been living off of one magical season at Pitt for far too long. I will be able to tell you this definitively by the end of this year. If the offense and passing game doesn't open up and become more explosive, it will be time to move on from him
Doyle
12:45
Hayes had a good Reds series with the bat but again, he's been really bad for the most part with the Pirates the past 2 seasons. If next year is more of the same with him, hitting .240 with no pop what do the Pirates do then? They're stuck with this 70 million dollar contract they never should have given him.
Zeise
12:45
They believe if nothing else, his glove as an anchor for the infield defense will justify that contract. If he starts hitting with some power and consistency he will become a steal for them

Do you ever play one club golf and just take it easy, or is it always five wedges and attempting to break par?  I'm heading out today armed only with an eight iron and a few Pro V1s. Very relaxing way  to appreciate a course.
Zeise
12:46
I don't have enough time to play rounds of golf like that. If I get out, I want to play for real. That sounds fun and maybe I will try it in retirement

Hey buddy! I know you don't like Biden and love us MAGA guys like me right?!?! Trump endorsed me. I got your endorsement too pal? My wife will send you some crudite!!
Zeise
12:49
LOL. I have high blood pressure, maybe you can help me in that area and ONLY that area

I don’t know the rule but could a team just sign Mason Rudolph to their 53 man roster without trading for him?
Zeise
12:49
no

If the Pirates are 5-5 after 10 games, basically avg with an above avg defense and an offense that looks like it did the past 2 years with Ben, Does Tomlin go to Pickett? I really feel because of that 2 year deal Trubisky got we're basically stuck with him this whole season.
Zeise
12:50
I don't think they are going to be very quick to move on from Trubisky. And 5-5 sounds like they will be in the thick of the playoff race so they aren't going to pull the plug
The Real TP Hunter
12:50
Hi Paul. Did anyone ask Tomlin why Trubisky threw a sideline pass with 8 seconds left in the overtime, before the winning FG? Were they just trying to run some time off the clock? Seemed unnecessarily risky at that point.
Zeise
12:50
I think they were just trying to get a quick hitter that made the field goal a little shorter thats all
Pete
12:50
If Pitt bball stinks again this season is Capel finally gone? This cannot go on again after another awful season right Paul?
Zeise
12:51
I would think that he has to get it right this year. But I don't think he needs to make the NCAA Tournament. I think if they can have a winning record overall and be more competitive in the ACC, it will be enough to show progress and give him another year to build on that

12:51
You and I should write a joint column together when the Browns play the Steelers. You up for that Paul? It would be fun.
Zeise
12:52
You are way out of my league!!
Fred Flintstone
12:52
Would Big Ben really come out of retirement to play for Dallas? Rumors swirling on social media. I can't see that.
Zeise
12:53
That would be the dumbest thing Ben could do. How would it help his legacy? That team is bad. Why would he do that? I will answer that, he won't. He isn't that stupid. I mean, I guess if Trubisky and Pickett and Rudolph all got hurt, he might listen to a call from the Steelers but other than that there is no chance he is coming back to play
Matt from LA
12:53
Thank you for acknowledging that winning meaningless games against teams who, like you have nothing to play for, should not be misconstrued into making the Pirates a playoff team next year!  If you listened to their broadcasters or the PG writers, you would think that the Pirates just made the World Series!
Zeise
12:54
Every single year the Pirates seem to have a stretch in September that we are supposed to interpret as "PROGRESS" but give me a break with that. See ya next year

A lot of fans posted their objections to the Steelers wearing a decal on their helmets to honor the memory of D. Haskins. I commend them for it; it is for the players who knew him. Am I wrong?
Zeise
12:54
By all accounts he was a very popular player among his teammates. And it was a tragedy. I have no problem at all with them honoring him
Donny

Beverly Hills Cop 4 is now shooting and will be released on Netflix sometime next year. Interested?
Zeise
12:55
After Beverly Hills Cop 3, I have zero interest in this one. I loved one and two, both great movies, but the third one was awful
Sam
12:55
Am I oversimplifying TJ's prospective absence to say that the Pats, Browns and Jets are winnable games regardless or his presence (though it would help), and the Bucs and Bills are not winnable games regardless of his presence?  Will their record without him be significantly different than their record would have been with him?
Zeise
12:57
I think he is difference maker - see Sunday. But they should beat the Pats, Browns and Jets without him and the Bucs and Bills games will be tough, but are still winnable. If he misses six games and the Steelers go 3-3 in them, it is a win and if they go 4-2 or better this could be a really special year
The Real TP Hunter
12:57
How long do you think Pitt could stay competitive in the SEC? Tennessee is a mid-tier SEC team and the Panthers were dropping with injuries all over the place. I'm not sure Pitt would make it halfway through the SEC season before running out of starters. They need to get a little bigger and stronger.
Zeise
12:57
Tennessee is mid-tier? Let's wait to see how the season plays out. And Pitt lost two quarterbacks in that game and still almost won, so I don't know if I buy this
Matt from LA
12:58
I don't understand the idea that the Pirates are tanking? Tanking for what? The draft next year will be like the NBA and the NHL with a lottery system in place.
Zeise
12:58
I don't think they are tanking. I think they are doing everything in their power to maximize profits and keep payroll low
Amanda
12:59
Where have you been Mr. Zeise ? I supposed getting drunk during the day ? Shameful
Zeise
12:59
Have another drink, talk to me next week
Lisa
12:59
People have been saying on twitter you got a demotion by going to kdka radio and kicked off the FAN? Is that true. Basically your time slot means demotion.
Zeise

Well I went from on in the evening and often pre-empted by Pirates games, coaches shows, specialty show to on during the mid-day and thus will reach a larger audience and have more endorsement opportunities and I am getting a significant raise as well. And I will still do evening shows leading into NFL games. Other than that, those people are correct.....SMDH
