I still am not optimistic the Steelers will do anything in the postseason. Ben was lucky a few of his throws against Indy weren't picked for touchdowns. I'm still not sold on his arm or the oline.
Zeise
12:41
I agree I think it will be a short ride in the playoffs. I expect them to win one then lose. And that would still be a heckuva season

Is Coach Tomlin back in 2022? Or does he decide to move on or try something new?
Zeise
12:42
Yes he will be. Why wouldn’t he be? Where is he going? He doesn’t strike me as a “cash out and do TV” kind of guy

Why don't you ever answer people in the comments section of your columns? To me that's rude brah.
Zeise
12:43
I will have to do a better job of checking in on those comments and engaging more with readers

Draft picks....1st round...OL....2nd Round.... OL...3rd Round....OL..what do you think?
Zeise
12:43
That’s a bit overkill but you are right, that has to be their priority. They have to go out and get linemen and rebuild that unit. It is getting old
Where’s my Clark Bar?
12:43
Whether or not the Pens window is closed/closing, is it safe to say this is the last year before it slams shut??
Zeise
12:44
I think it has closed. This isn’t a Stanley Cup team, it just isn’t. They will be a playoff team but that ship of winning the Cup has sailed

Given the Pittsburgh Steelers & Philadelphia Eagles are the only NFL teams in Pennsylvania (and are historically linked organizationally as the Steagles) and are out of each other’s conference do they have a close working relationship in terms of trades and the like?
Zeise
12:45
I don’t think it is any different than any other team. It is about people and people you know and work with often. That changes over time.
Robert
12:45
Did the Pittsburgh Steelers publicly congratulate the Philadelphia Eagles when they won the Super Bowl for the first time? You know like representing a sort of Pennsylvania football sort of pride? :)
Zeise
12:46
Um, not that I know of.

Happy New Year Paul and thanks for the chats. Regardless of how the playoffs pan out for the Steelers, I think their best bet is to begin the rebuild in earnest in 2021, including drafting a QB in the first round if one rated that high drops to them. This team is operating on fumes.
Zeise
12:51
That is exactly the plan. They have to do that and they know it. Age, salary cap issues and possible retirements have made it clear this run for the Steelers with Ben Roethlisberger is at its end

Paul, any thoughts about Booger MacFarland's comments about young African-American pro athletes and their "brand building" priorities?
Zeise
12:53
He wasn’t wrong but I don’t know that it is only young African-Americans, it is young players in general

Did you just say Pitt should be 'really good again' next year? Are we really at the point where we're labeling anything over .500 as 'really good?' When does Pitt shoot higher?
Zeise
12:56
I didn’t mean this was a really good year and I’ve said many times this year was a disappointment. What I meant was they have a chance to be really good next year - just like they had a chance to be really good this year. It didn’t happen this year but it could next year

Mason's stats on Sunday: 3 TDs, over 200 yards, one pick (win) OR 1 TD, under 200 yards 3 picks (loss).
Zeise
12:57
I’m gonna say 1 TD, 1 pick, 200+ yards and a win!!!
Why not right?
Tom

Should the Steelers just forfeit the Cleveland game?  Why risk getting Covid from them?  Stay healthy and get their bye, why not. The Super Bowl may just be the two healthiest teams not the best.
Zeise
12:58
There is no reason to avoid playing the games to avoid getting covid from the Browns. That would be silly.

It seems KC vs GB to meet in SB as of now.. can you see anyone beating KC? They are an unstoppable machine offensively really..
Zeise

I think the Ravens and the Bills are both good enough beat the Chiefs. They are both equipped to match Mahomes but in different ways. I don’t like the Saints chances of beating the Packers if the game is in Green Bay. I like the Packers to get to the Super Bowl

Happy New Year Paul.  Are any Steeler receivers drawing regular double coverage?
Zeise
1:00
Regularly? No. JuJu Smith-Schuster has at times but not nearly as much as you think

It appears when the OL defends the pass they drop back this allowing the DL to get hands up and bat balls. Is the OL stance 2 point or 3 point telling if they will pass or run?  Batted balls at the line are 1-dangerous for INTs and 2-not productive for gaining yards
Zeise
1:02
Teams at this point know they are gonna pass it every time. There is no guesswork. And because Ben Roethlisberger is throwing a lot of short passes they are more vulnerable to getting knocked down. I don’t think it is a major issuw

Do you think the NY Giants and SF Giants get together once or twice a year for a BBQ?  Asking for Robert.
Zeise
1:06
You apparently are a fan of the Mike Francesca show ....
Head Coach...NOT
1:07
Hey Paul, what does it say that Steelers coordinators are never in the conversation for head coaching jobs? Why do we never have a Mcvay, lores etc. type of creative talent on the coaching staff? Does this hurt the steelers?
Zeise
1:08
Maybe that they are seen as coordinators and not head coaches. That doesn’t mean they are bad coaches it just means they don’t necessarily have what teams consider “head coach” stuff whatever that is

Steelers starting CBs next season are:

Can you name a few SB winning teams with so many veterans like tbe Steelers have?
Zeise

A few years ago the Patriots were an aging team with a 40-year old quarterback
