But just throwing money at underwhelming free agents isn't the answer.
Whew, Stastny on a three-year deal to Vegas.
That's a good deal for them even if it's a high cap hit.

I'm not a big fan of Polak's game, and don't think he'll add much to that team.
The backup goaltender you have to get for Bishop, who has an injury history.

I would be absolutely stunned if Toronto acquired Erik Karlsson at any point before July 1, 2019.

If they do sign Tavares, which is still far from even likely, they may have to look at moving one of their other forwards down the line.
I don't think that happens this summer though, especially with Dubas now in charge. Nylander is a core piece.

JVR is one of the most unique players in the NHL.

He doesn't carry the puck much, he doesn't shoot from outside much, he doesn't create a ton of chances off the rush for himself or teammates.
But around the net he is one of the best there has been in a long time.
His ability to find loose pucks and get them up and over goaltenders is almost unmatched around the league.

If Philadelphia can live with the other problems, he'll be excellent for them.
Five years is a really good contract.
