I thought they'd do more on July 1 to add defensive depth, but the deals for Daley/Hainsey/Hunwick probably priced them out.

Pastrnak depends completely on how long they go with him.

Galchenyuk pretty much has to start at C next year. Habs already said Drouin is a W, at least to start. Lots of rumblings out of Habland that RNH could be the target to fill the C void. Seems realistic to me but not sure what EDM would want, assuming they rightfully want more than just future cap relief

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be a huge fit between those two teams.

Both going for it, without a "hockey deal" (gosh I hate that term) that jumps out at you.

Baseball teams reap the benefits of specialists by comboing them (e.g. left pitchers only facing lefty hitters). Do you see any place in the NHL for something like that with a guy like Vanek?

But if you've ever watched a guy get benched for a period just to get thrown in in OT, you've seen how much it can drain your legs.

But, for teams that are only going to play their 12th forward 4 minutes a night anyway...why not keep that spot just for a shootout artist?

I'm not sure it'll ever happen.
