Seemed to work for Toronto last year.
It'll be tough for Boston, but they still have elite talent at the top.
Rob
5:55
Ottawa has to be in for a regression yes? Anderson drama is over and they lost a top 4 d-man.
Gavin Lee
5:56
They still have enough on defense to play their game.
Whether they get the goaltending they did last year is a question, but their forward group should still score enough to put them in the playoffs.
Erik Karlsson helps.

Assuming everything goes without a hitch, how long before the sale of Carolina sale is final?
Gavin Lee
5:56
We're not even close to that yet.
5:58
I have no law training, but it seems like the letter of intent was a very, very preliminary move. They haven't even agreed to sell.
Rob
5:58
Is Nolan Patrick gonna be one of those guys who can't stay healthy?
Gavin Lee
5:58
He may well be, but nothing in his history should make you think that at this point.
5:59
Look at Morgan Rielly and how much time he missed in his draft year, and how relatively durable he's been since.
Stuff goes up and down, and Patrick is still a kid.
Third Line Penguins Center
5:59
Who am I? I'm having a serious identity crisis. When will I reveal myself and who could I be?
Gavin Lee
6:00
Wouldn't it be great for Rutherford to have a press conference to introduce the long-awaited third line center, only to bring out Zach Aston-Reese.
Rob
6:00
What makes Wpg think Mason can get them over the hump?
Gavin Lee
6:01
Absolutely no idea.
But average goaltending gets that team to the playoffs I think.
Olli Maata
6:01
What happened to me this year and can I bounce back? And in PIT? Or where would I go?
Gavin Lee
6:01
Attackers realized you couldn't skate very well.
6:02
You'll bounce back just fine, but that contract looks a bit premature at this point.
Eric
6:02
Thanks for answering my Hobey Baker questions. Always enjoy these chats
Gavin Lee
6:02
I enjoy them too Eric, thanks for the questions.
Robert

I would put the local boy Larkin as the face
But they need to go a few years being bad to get more talent, can't bank on finding diamonds in the rough in late rounds of the draft
Gavin Lee
6:03
Larkin is the option for sure, but that was a real step backwards for him last year.
It seems like Detroit is most excited for Athanasiou, which really tells you where that franchise is.

6:03
Dont know where your located but if you get to Carolina I'll buy you a BBQ and a cold one.
Gavin Lee
6:04
That sounds like a plan, and I do hope to get to Raleigh this year. Someone told me there were seats available at Hurricanes games..

Presuming you're right about Tatar getting a 1-year deal and then a trade, if he's on pace for another streaky 25-goal season, is he netting anything truly valuable to the rebuilding Wings?
Robert
6:05
Per capfriendly Detroit has only $2mil with Tatar and Athanasiou to sign. Mike Green has 1yr left, is he being shopped?
Gavin Lee
6:05
I don't think Green is being shopped, but like the above question he could at the deadline.
6:06
If Holland finally commits to a rebuild, Tatar, Nyquist, Green could all be on the way out. Detroit could legitimately pick three times in the 2018 first round, which would completely turn the franchise around.
But..it'll take a real commitment to rebuild and a number of years of pain.
Robert
6:07
Doesn't have much around him(Larkin)
Gavin Lee
6:07
He's got the ghosts of Red Wings past.

Ray Shero has been great for NJ so far.  Is he viewed as one of the better traders in the industry?
Gavin Lee
6:08
He's definitely hit some home runs, but there are some blemishes on his record like any other.
Here's a fun resource if you want to look into his specific history: http://nhltradetracker.com/user/trade_list_by_GM/Ray_Shero/54

Seattle is _ many years away from joining the NHL?
