Or he could play up to the level they know.
He's just not really the type to play in the bottom six, and there's no reason to rush him to the NHL.
6:28
I think he likely plays the whole year in Regina and sees some AHL time at the end of the season.
6:29
I just don't see the readiness to take that next step.
6:30
I'd also like to see him without Brooks on the Pats.
Josh

Thanks for your thoughts!  Any other Ducks prospects that could make the NHL jump this season, aside from Steel and Larson?
Gavin Lee
6:33
I think you'll likely see the debut of Andy Welinski this year at some point.
Though with the depth the Ducks have on D it'll be as an injury call up.
One to keep an eye on that won't make the jump is Josh Mahura, who will play with Steel in Regina.
I am absolutely in love with his game.

Any news on the Islanders direction for their franchise? Need an arena, young good players becoming UFAs with Tavares. They are in a tricky spot right now in my eyes.
Gavin Lee
6:34
Really tough spot.
6:35
A lot could go wrong very quickly for the Isles in the next 8 months or so. Tavares has openly said he's waiting on the arena news before signing, which might mean no arena=no extension.
Problem is they won't know about that for at least six months.
Maybe four, I might be remembering wrong.
6:36
But either way, proposals go in at the end of September and a decision won't be made until the winter.
If the Isles are out of the playoff race, why not look to move Tavares.
As scary and silly as that seems.
Robert
6:36
If the bottom falls off of the franchise does the NHL relocate them in the coming years?
Gavin Lee
6:36
I still have a hard time seeing a relocation.
Robert
6:37
Maybe Leddy too, if they are going to sell off assets, already shopped Hamonic
Gavin Lee
6:37
Maybe everyone at that point.
If you're trading Tavares, it might as well be a fire sale.
Nick
6:37
Vegas can't play all those defense men. Who do you see making the roster? Who do you think is traded? Anything other than mediocre draft picks coming back?
Gavin Lee
6:38
To answer the last part first, they could still get real value for Schmidt, Miller, McNabb I think.
Probably still draft picks, but not mediocre ones.
6:39
That said, I'm not sure what their plan is at this point. McPhee has said he's happy with the number they have right now and they're not forced to move any, but that would mean burying some of the veterans or exposing others to waivers
It doesn't make much sense to me.
6:40
I think the worst thing they could do is put Shea Theodore back in the minors, but it might have to happen at this point.
He's one of the few waiver-exempt ones.
Robert
6:41
Relocation was a thought because if they are going to be bad and without a home in NY then they might just run themselves into the ground because of low revenues from low fan turn out
Gavin Lee
6:42
I think they could definitely build it back up quickly though. There is definitely a fan base for a winner, and other options beyond the Belmont site for a future arena.
And the NHL is very stubborn on relocation.
I doubt they'd give up on the Islanders just yet.
Robert
6:43
True, their situation is unenviable and an interesting one to watch.
Gavin Lee
6:43
It could always change really quickly though. If the proposal for the Belmont site wins, and Tavares re-signs, you could be thinking of them as a pretty stable franchise just next summer.

Has Ken Holland jumped the shark? We can't even ice s competitive team and we may lose Athanasiou? And all those absurd contracts with NTCs... Might be time for a changing of the guard in Detroit no?
Gavin Lee
6:50
I do think we're heading that way. This talk of making the playoffs while rebuilding smacks of desperation, though Holland is still extremely well respected throughout the game.
I've written before, I actually don't think losing Athanasiou for a year to the KHL, as long as there was some sort of guarantee he'd return, would be a bad thing for them.
6:51
I've thought about that before, as a sort of cap haven for teams during a rebuild.
