With him back to attract more attention, does Benn rebound?
Does Robertson take another step as teams can't concentrate/hard match him?
Pens Fan

I’m completely aware it would never happen, but a Malkin for Eichel trade makes sense doesn’t it? Buffalo retains salary, and gets a good back of career player to help provide some offense. Pittsburgh gets a number 2 center who will take over the team years down the road, if health remains good
Gavin Lee
6:31
That makes zero sense for the Sabres
Why would they want an (injured) expiring contract in Malkin?
Pens Fan
6:32
Why not? Salary retention, for only a year, which means good cap space next year, and I understand the injury but I don’t think Eichel is going to play with his neck injury either (all be it for a bit)
Gavin Lee
6:32
You can't retain salary for only a year
6:33
Either Buffalo retains for the whole Eichel contract, or they don't
But how does that help them get better?
It would need to be like Malkin+PO Joseph+Sam Poulin+1st
6:34
PLUS, the fact that Malkin would certainly not waive his clause to go to Buffalo.

What are the Canucks options when it comes to Travis Hamonic?  Regardless of the reasons that he is staying home, it seems like Vancouver should get some sort of cap relief at the very least.
Gavin Lee
6:35
They can suspend him without pay, which would give them cap relief.
But I'm not sure if the Canucks are actually going to do that
6:36
From all accounts, Vancouver and he are not at odds here. They are working through his personal matter

6:36
How bad is the Byfield injury?  Is this going to hurt his development long term?  We’re the Kings counting on him for a big role this year?
Gavin Lee
6:36
He broke his ankle, he's out for a while
Any time missed in these critical years is bad for development
6:37
Whether the injury will be a long-term thing I can't say
As in, affect his performance long-term
I don't think they necessarily were counting on him in a big role, but they were certainly hoping for it
And from all accounts, he was living up to some of that hype. He looked great in camp, like he took a real step forward
6:38
I'm frustrated just as a fan that this happened

The positive vibes in Ottawa have sure been flushed away by the Colin White injury & Tkachuk's contract situation.  Assuming they get Tkachuk done relatively soon, how do you see them doing this year?
Gavin Lee
6:38
Boy have they
This was a team that was going to scratch and claw and surprise and fight for every point
But now...woof. That's a tough group they're heading into the season with
6:39
I still think they're going to play their butts off for DJ Smith, the players there absolutely love him.
But who do you want with the puck on his stick when you're down by 2?
Is Connor Brown the most reliable forward in the lineup?
6:40
Nothing against him, but that's a tough situation to be in
wreckage
6:40
Stuetzle
Gavin Lee
6:40
Ah ha, this is the hope
6:41
But that's a lot for a kid who still isn't strong enough to battle through a lot at the NHL level
He's brilliantly talented, but I have a hard time believing he could really drive a team
6:42
I mean let's say Stutzle performs even at the level of say, Teravainen. Does that team have enough to really compete?
6:43
Gonna be tough. Tkachuk is such a key part because he makes the whole game about him, everyone is focused on him, everyone is chasing him. Helps so many of his teammates that way
Maynard
6:43
Is Zegras going to stick at center, or is he better suited as a winger?
Gavin Lee
6:43
I think he's going to be just fine at center, though he's not going to play it like many others around the league
6:44
He is so cerebral that I think he'll do just fine there, even not being very physical or powerful
