I can't imagine that Canucks ownership will let Jim Benning make any moves.  It's a complete disaster in Vancouver & obviously they will clean house at some point.  How much longer do you think they can go in like this.... the fan base is apoplectic right now & the players seem almost as frustrated as the fans.  Do they fire the GM now or can they afford to wait and risk alienating the fans even further?

Tying Benning's hands is a real thing to think about too. If the next guy is going to be told to tear it down, you can't let him do anything right now

One thing I'm very concerned about though is Blake Wheeler.

He isn't going to go a whole season with no goals, but I think there is a real risk that his defensive issues are no longer going to be masked by strong offensive plays
It's not really something you can fix, I just wonder if it will end up keeping them from being the team I thought they would be

Who are some of the names that Vancouver would potentially target to replace Jim Benning if they want yo have someone in place before the trade deadline?  Sorry for all the Canucks questions but it's a complete sh** show right now....  I've never seen the fans this angry.  Serious damage is being done to the brand IMO.

Well that's the issue right, it's hard to just make a quick flip in the GM spot
Coach, sure you could go get Claude Julien or Bruce Boudreau to come in for the rest of the year (though again, I'm not convinced they want to pay a guy like that).

And if you rush it, you can quickly find yourself going from one unsuccessful guy to another unsuccessful guy

Does an NHL team have any rights to a player signed to their AHL affiliate in another NHL team offers them a contract? Like the ability to match the offer and keep that player in the organization.

I do not believe there is anything in the AHL CBA that gives first refusal rights to an affiliate, but the usual practice is to do so

I do believe a team can block a guy from signing elsewhere, however, though I doubt it would be used very often

Carolina kept Jarvis, which makes them deeper, but what could you see them looking for at the trade deadline?

One thing to note about Jarvis that I seem to be seeing all over, is that he's not guaranteed to stay up all year
They went past the 10 game threshold which means his contract starts, but the 40-game threshold is sometimes more important, because that's when he gets a year closer to UFA
