Don't be so sure that they'll be going somewhere.

Do you see the Blackhawks being able to trade Artem Anisimov? What teams would be interested in him as a low 2C/high 3C that can play on the PK? If they move him, what would a realistic return be?
Gavin Lee
6:44
Apparently you can get Nino Niederreiter.
I'm kidding, obviously. But there may be a market for him no that his price tag is coming down.
Feels much more like a deal to get done in the summer though.

I saw the Blackhawks were trying out Jokiharju, a natural RD, on the left side so they would have room for Adam Boqvist next season. Why can't they both stay on the right side? They need 3 competent RD, not just one. Are they trying to groom him to be Boqvist's partner? If so, is he the right choice? Though he is good in his own end his game is more of a 2-way game than a defensive defenseman role.
Gavin Lee
6:45
Trying things out is never a bad idea in a lost season.
They want to know what they have with Jokiharju, and how they can structure their defense going forward.
6:46
Why not try it when the games don't mean a whole lot.
As for a pairing of those two, I don't think it would be terrible. Jokiharju's not a defensive defenseman, because those basically don't exist now in terms of top prospects.
No one is looking for a slow, physical defender on the back end.
6:47
Defending now is about being able to make quick decisions and get the puck out of your zone effectively.
That's Jokiharju.
Boqvist is not that, not at all, but he is a dynamic skater with the puck and should be able to create offense for his team.

Hi Gavin, sounds like you are high on Cale makar, is he going to make his nhl debut this year and what is his ceiling??
Gavin Lee
6:48
I think his ceiling very well could be leading all defensemen in points at one point in his career.
6:49
He could definitely make his debut if they sign him after the college year ends.
He said he only wanted to be in college for a year or two, so maybe the negotiations will be easy

Do devils make a move for defense
Gavin Lee
6:50
Not one aimed at this season.
If they can get someone with term, sure.
6:51
Another team that will probably be active near the draft.
Derek
6:51
What pieces can and should the Devils sell off to prep themselves for next season?
Gavin Lee
6:51
As for selling, they have some great lower-tier rentals that will certainly go.
Marcus Johansson, Brian Boyle, Ben Lovejoy.
6:52
Personally I would be testing the markets on Blake Coleman and Sami Vatanen too, but I don't think they really want to gut things.
Jake
6:53
What do the San Jose Sharks add at the deadline? They are obviously all in on this season.
Gavin Lee
6:53
Amazingly they've already said they are willing to go after rentals again this year.
Not sure what they have to buy those rentals with exactly, but I bet San Jose is a surprise bidder on a pretty big name come the end of February.

What do you think NYR can get for Kevin Hayes and or Matts Zucarello
Gavin Lee
6:54
A fair bit, which should scare Metropolitan teams for the future.
I think the New York front office rightly realized last season that they had a whole bunch of expiring assets and no real shot at the Cup, and made a great plan on how to maximize it all.
6:55
That pipeline is going to be jam packed after the draft.
Jarmo
6:55
Are the Jackets trading Bob or Panarin?
Gavin Lee
6:55
It's becoming more and more unlikely it seems.
They need them to compete, and competing is what they need.
Gary
6:56
When is Svechnikov going to break out?
Gavin Lee
6:56
2019-20.
Connor B.
6:56
Do you think that Toronto needs to add physicality to their forward lineup? Or should they just get a defenseman? Or do both?
Gavin Lee
6:57
I think a physical winger would help, but it would have to be someone who can really play.
