I’m not making millions
Gavin Lee
6:52
It's all relative my friend.
They've never made minimum wage.

Is Arizona still interested in Duchene? There was that one report a while back but he appears to be set on either Montreal or Nashville.
Gavin Lee
6:53
LeBrun noted today that Arizona isn't getting an in-person visit.
Obviously things can change, but that would suggest they're out.

Do you think 6 years from now we will all look back and believe that Seider deserved to go 6th overall?
Gavin Lee
6:54
Probably not. In all likelihood there are two or three kids in rounds 2-7 that deserve to be considered up there.
6:55
He's not such an insane pick though, just because he wasn't in the mocks. Lots of people loved Seider at the Worlds.

If Perry was bought out, what will happen to Kesler or Getzlaf? Will they suffer the same fate?
Gavin Lee
6:56
Kesler is headed to LTIR and (likely) won't play again, you can't buy out injured players.
Getzlaf is still an effective player and only has two years left. He probably makes it through the deal.

Outside of Hughes and Kakko, what other top picks from this year’s draft are expected to jump to the NHL next season?
Gavin Lee
6:57
Byram will certainly have a chance. I think Cozens landing in Buffalo gives him a great chance to play this year
6:58
I imagine Dach will get the chance too, though I'm not totally sure that's the best idea.
6:59
I thought Ville Heinola might shock the world and make a team out of camp, but landing in Winnipeg doesn't give me much confidence in that take.

Word is the Canucks will not be arguing the cap recapture from Luongo retiring (even though nobody really pays these). How do you feel about it?
Gavin Lee
6:59
Let's remember that the Canucks have already benefited from a contract that was clearly designed to circumvent the cap rules at the time.
7:00
They (and the Panthers) had Luongo for a cap number that wasn't accurate to the contract he was playing under.
7:01
Sure it is silly in the cases where a team is facing ~$24M in penalties, but this $3MM is just the cost of business at this point I think
(I'm not saying that instituting a rule penalizing an old loophole is the way I would run a league, but it's what all of the owners and players agreed to)

7:02
Could Jackets look to 2nd/3rd tier guys like Donskoi and Zucc to fill holes left by their FAs?
Gavin Lee
7:02
I'm not totally sure that Zuccarello is a second tier guy given he's looking for a five-year deal.
At the same time, he's definitely on the Blue Jackets radar and Kekalainen has never been one to avoid risk.
Jarmo
7:03
Who do you see me signing this offseason? How much do I have to offer Duchene to get him to stay in Columbus?
Gavin Lee
7:03
Probably a lot.
I think he's probably getting a $9M+ cap hit.
And that's conservative, probably

7:03
What’s Marleau’s next move? Back to San Jose? Retirement?
Gavin Lee
7:04
I imagine he'll be back with the Sharks for league minimum (or close to it) but they have some issues to work out first.
Nick
7:04
Thoughts on Pens and Perry or Simmonds?
Gavin Lee
7:04
Don't think either are happening.
Josh Yohe is pretty tuned in there usually, and he just posted this in The Athletic -- https://theathletic.com/1051033/2019/06/27/penguins-trade-talks-are-he...

If Florida misses on Bob, how desperate do they get for a real netminder?  Who would be out there they could get via trade?
Gavin Lee
7:06
Lehner might still be out there for any team missing on Bobrovsky, and you shouldn't be too upset about landing him.
7:08
Might be able to go after Markstrom as a trade candidate
Elwood
7:08
What specific handedness attached to a position is most in demand right now?
Gavin Lee
7:08
Right-shot defense are always at a premium, but teams also have individual forward needs.
Minnesota for instance is desperately searching for a right-handed top-six option
The NHL Draft
7:09
Is it just too hard to try to draft for a specific player for a specific role outside of a star player? Also, aren't teams usually drafting too late AND too early? It usually takes at least two years for players to make it to the NHL and shine and even then the role of that player might develop differently at the same time the team AND league change. Is this just more of a fan and media viewing and analytical prism in evaluating the draft both before and afterwards?
