He's a fine player though, and will probably be well liked there.

Do you think scouting report on Byram is fair? They also listed him as the 7th best prospect. Peters: "One scout I spoke to expressed concern that the way Byram scored goals -- popping deep into zones and aggressively jumping plays -- won't translate to the NHL. I think elements of it can, but he will have to become a bit more selective. He's the best defenseman in this draft by a fairly large margin. But the threshold of a future No. 1 defenseman is pretty high, and I'm not sure Byram is there yet for me."
Gavin Lee
7:34
It is certainly fair, it's hard to call any teenaged defenseman a future number 1. There is so much more that goes into being that kind of a player than anyone can see at this point.
7:35
But, the idea that Byram's offense won't translate is crazy to me.
He's not a rover that throws everything he has on net, he's got a great sense of when and where to be to support his forwards.
7:36
Unless he's entirely uncoachable (which is absolutely not the sense people get when speaking with him) they will be able to work on how to produce those chances at the higher levels.

Do you really think Pavelski would leave the Sharks if they offer anything close to what other teams offer?
Gavin Lee
7:36
The problem is I'm not sure the Sharks will be able to afford to do that.
7:37
If all things are equal, for sure he would go back to San Jose--just like Marleau would have.
But he's visiting other teams for a reason.
Sabres fan
7:37
Can the Sabres land one of the top centers and top winger and a solid player on D? Is that asking to much? Lol
Gavin Lee
7:37
Ha, that might be asking a bit much.
7:38
They have some room to pay though, I don't doubt they'll be involved with some of the bigger names.
Have to be careful with who you bring in though. Don't spend just to spend.

What else do you see Chicago doing? Do you think they are through adding to the defense? Which UFA wingers might they be interested in, or do you feel trades will be their approach?
Gavin Lee
7:39
Sounds like they've changed their focus from the blue line to the forward group now, yes.
Trades were always the first option this summer, as you've seen.
7:40
But I wonder if they might go after a versatile forward like Marcus Johansson.

How about a Ferland or a Dzingel coming to the dessert any chance or too pricey?
Gavin Lee
7:40
That's a good place to start thinking about free agents and the Coyotes.
Topgun
7:41
Does Winnipeg sign any free agents on Monday.  Maybe a second line center
Gavin Lee
7:41
If you can find a second line center in the group not named Matt Duchene, sure.
7:42
Don't really think that player exists right now.

What does a Joe Sakic offseason homerun look like?
Gavin Lee
7:42
Panarin.
Still would be against that though.
Tim
7:42
Who do you think will be the goalie for the canes next year? And does Faulk get traded?
James
7:42
What do you think the canes are going to do in goal? Is Faulk going to be traded?
Gavin Lee
7:43
Tim and James you must be brothers.
There are lots of options if they can't convince Mrazek. Lehner, Varlamov, even some reclamation projects like Talbot or Reimer.
7:44
Sounded recently like they were closer to extending Faulk than trading him.

How attached is Colorado to JT Compher?  I'd love to see him in a Pens uniform for the right price.
Gavin Lee
7:44
They've been high on Compher since the O'Reilly trade.

Does Aho get an offer sheet?
Gavin Lee
7:45
Nope.
Don't think anyone will.

Would it be crazy for the Blues to sign Binnington to a deal around 4 years $5.5 million?
Gavin Lee
7:47
Remember when they signed Jake Allen to a four-year, $17.4MM deal after his great 2015-16?
Be careful what you wish for with goaltenders who don't have a long track record.

Do you see potentially multiple former sharks becoming Avalanche? I can see Pavelski, Donskoi and Nyquist as great options and secondary scoring.
