Chances sabres hang around the 8/9 spot this year? Or are they going to be looking at abother top draft pick?
Gavin Lee
6:39
I don't think they'll be a top-5 pick this year.
Maybe that's going out on a limb.
6:40
But they have a lot of talent that could really come together, and the additions they've made to at least put legitimate NHL players in their depth positions should help more than anything.

Are the Yotes done with the off-season? Maybe a trade involving Strome and Goligoski for another winger or a cheaper Righthand D.
Gavin Lee
6:41
Strome's not going anywhere, I don't think.
This is his year to show whether he's a player or not.
If it doesn't happen, maybe next summer.
Hey Jarry just signed, by the way.

where for Jarry?
Gavin Lee
6:42
Back in Pitt, he was an RFA
Two years, $1.35MM. The minimum
That's total.

who reported it? Friedman?
Gavin Lee
6:42
The team released.

Can’t Strome excel on the wing possible with Keller and Stepan, while they give Galchenyuk a shot at Center.
Gavin Lee
6:43
He could excel, or he could struggle--that's not certain yet. But you're right in thinking that he might be the one moved off to give Galchenyuk a chance.
6:44
There are some who really believe he's doesn't skate well enough to do any damage from the wing
But we'll see.

What do you see the Bruins doing with the log jam on D?  Will they move Krug/ mcquaid to try to bring a top 6 winger in?
Gavin Lee
6:45
Krug has definitely been speculated about a lot, but I'm not sure if any of it is really coming from the Bruins.
He's a valuable player for them, even with the young guys coming
Don't think that's an offseason trade really
Stephen
6:46
What about the 3rd line C job.  Kuraly, Donato, JFK?
Gavin Lee
6:46
I'd be taking a long look at JFK in camp to see if he can help.
6:47
Kuraly isn't a good option for the third line in my opinion, and I think Donato is a winger.
Honestly I thought they'd bring back Riley Nash.

Will Ottawa lose EK for nothing?  Do you agree they should have traded him already?
Gavin Lee
6:48
I mean it doesn't matter if they trade him two weeks ago or two weeks from now
If it's done this offseason it will be a huge haul.
Only gets smaller as we get closer to the deadline, as long as he's still not willing to sign an extension.
I have a hard time believing they'll just let him walk though.
Stephen
6:49
Totally agree with Krug, however they did talk about how small they were on the right side and they resigned Gryzlick and signed moore
Gavin Lee
6:49
Yeah I'm not denying there are some extra bodies, just think they'll let it work itself out in the year.
6:50
Carrying 8 defensemen isn't crazy, even if they do have some bigger cap hits.
Remember that Chara is 41 and McQuaid is coming back from an injury riddled year.
Can't pencil them both in for 82

Best and worst case Maple Leafs scenarios for next year?
Gavin Lee
6:53
Best:

Auston Matthews remains healthy all year, vaults himself into Hart Trophy contention with an 80+ point season. Mitch Marner finds his perfect center in John Tavares and adds 25 assists on the PP. Morgan Rielly finally becomes a #1 defenseman and carries the team into the playoffs.

Worst:

Matthews' back problems resurface and he's forced to play just 45 games. Without one of their three star centers the team's lack of depth down the middle is exposed, and they go on a long losing streak. Jake Gardiner is injured at the deadline and walks into free agency without getting anything in return.

I disagree with time not mattering.  The longer OTT waits the possible list of trade partners narrows.  Cap space is being filled, rosters are being set.  I doubt the return is increasing with time, let's put it that way.
