Ok. You would need to provide documentation that English is the language of instruction for your program. Otherwise, you would need to submit TOEFL/IELTS scores.

I see. And am I going to be informed once the decision is made? I heard some programs do not let the applicants know the results even rejections.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:47
Dennis, please know that we give all applicants a decision. I'm not sure who told you that it doesn't happen in some cases, but they were mistaken. Once a decision is ready, you will receive an email stating that you can log into the application system to see your decision.

Can the LOR by professor be submitted 1-2 days late
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:49
Hi Tanmay, we require all materials, including LORs, to be submitted by the application deadline. If they are submitted after that date it is up to the program as to whether or not the application is reviewed.

What do you look for in a statement of professional interests? Is it okay to emphasise on a thoughtful background of your experience and how they generated an interest in the program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:50
Yes, we definitely recommend that be included. We do include guidelines on our website, here: https://gradadm.seas.upenn.edu/how-to-apply/

In the fellowships and awards section can I include the awards or certificates I received for my academic prowess. And finally since the deadline for robotics is Feb 1 when can I expect the decision to be made.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:53
Jayadev, yes you can include awards. You can also include this information on your CV/Resume. As for when you can expect a decision, they will be released every Friday starting next Friday, Feb 7, will all decisions expected to be released no later than May 8.
Dennis
10:53
Well, what I have actually heard is they did not receive any decisions until June.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:54
Dennis, that is a little different. However, outside of a few exceptions, we do our best to make sure all decisions will be released by May 8.

Hello
Is it okay if the IELTS official score reaches the University after the deadline? The scanned copy is uploaded in the application. However it takes around 10-15 days for the official score to reach the university.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
11:07
Amrita, yes, that is fine. We can start reviews based on the unofficial scores that you have uploaded, so as long as you have sent the official scores, it will be ok.
Amrita
11:08
Okay, great. Thank you so much!
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

You are welcome, Amrita. Good luck.

Hi, I’m wondering if we should put down tutor experience or paid summer REU in the employment session.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
11:13
Wen, if neither were for a specific class, then yes, you could.
Wen

Hi Will. Do you know if any MSE PhD decisions will be coming out soon?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
11:16
Chengyang, I can tell you that there will not be any coming out before Monday. Other than that, I do not know. They are released on a rolling basis, so it is whenever the department makes a decision and confirms funding.

Hi Will, can you elaborate on what "Personal statement of research and professional interests" means when applying for the M:IPD?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

Guest, You can see the guidelines we have available here: https://gradadm.seas.upenn.edu/how-to-apply/
Tanya

I worked at a bank last summer as an intern, should I put it under Employment?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
11:16
Tanya, if you received academic credit, then this would be considered an internship and not employment. If you did not, and were instead paid, then it would be considered employment.
Tanya
11:17
Thanks for clearing that up Will.
