Hey Will! I have asked my professors to upload the letter of recommendation but due to some unforeseen circumstances he hasn't been able to do it yet and i am not sure if he would make it within tomorrow's deadline. Could i still go ahead with submitting the application or will it be void?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
11:24
Guest, I would go ahead and submit the application. You could also find another possible academic recommender, as you can have up to 3 letters uploaded. Ultimately, if the application is not completed by the deadline, including having at least 2 required letters submitted, it is up to the department as to whether or not the application is reviewed. Usually it is not.

Hi Will, I re-sat my gre test and the scores are not released, so I dont know my score in the writing section. if I entered my previous  score for gre and the recent one, will only the higher be considered or both?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
11:25
Mariam, we use the Super Score method, so we'll look at the highest scores for each section, provided that you have submitted all of the scores to us. That is fine if we don't have your official scores yet as we will use the unofficial scores to begin application review.

I am interested in Masters program of Chemical and Biological Engineering. It is recommended to have a TOEFL score of 100, I have a toefl score of 87. Should I consider applying believing that I fulfill the other requirements?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
11:26
Prateek, this is a recommendation, not a requirement, and we do review all completed applications that are submitted by the deadline. It is up to you, bu if you believe that the rest of your application can make up for having a score that is under 100, then by all means, please apply.

Thanks Will! Just one more query, how do i convert my years of work experience into the relevant research months. I do not feel entire duration may be relevant. Would an approximation be alright ?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
11:29
Hi guest. That's a great question: part-time research, for example during the school year, should be converted to full time (e.g., 15 hrs/week for 8 months = 3 months). Labs associated with a course, such as an organic chemistry course lab, should be excluded.

I have given TOEFL and entered its details in the application form, but I am not sending it since my university has English as the medium of instruction. Is that okay? Or since I have a good score (115), I should send it?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
11:30
Anon, if your school has English as their medium of instruction, then the requirement will be waived after your application is reviewed by our enrollment specialists, before it is sent to the department, so most likely the scores would not be considered. It is ultimately up to you.

And we're back! Who's got another question?

hello fenton
I have applied for phd CIS almost 4 months ago. Is it any news for me about decision?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
11:47
Qaisar, you will receive notification when a decision is available. I'm sorry, but we have to request your patience at this time.
qaisar
11:48
R you people announcing any decisions today for phd?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
11:49
Qaisar, we are not releasing any CIS PhD decisions today.
qaisar
11:49
Can you please tell have you sent any phd decisions of CIS yet or not?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
11:49
We have released a few. Don't worry, every applicant will receive a decision.

And I'm back, again.
qaisar
12:02
is there any criteria for first come first serve
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
12:03
Qaisar, I'm sorry, but that's not how the process works - we don't evaluate candidates based on when the application was received - we review the PhD applications after the deadline, and review the entire application pool.

Hello,
Decisions for MSc in Computer Graphics and Game Technologies and other CS related departments were supposed to be out on rolling basics today. Do you have any idea if they are out or when they will be?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
12:07
Umesh, there are no CIS department decisions that will be going out today.

Morning Will! I've submitted my application for MS program today. And It's been more than three weeks since I ordered my GRE and TOEFL scores. However my application checklist indicates that GRE/TOEFL scores are 'needed'. Is this the latest status? I'm worried since tomorrow's the deadline. What happens if by tomorrow the scores are not received?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
12:08
Pranoti, it's ok if we don't have your official scores by the deadline - as long as you've taken the test before the deadline, you'll be fine regarding this requirement. We have an "automatic" test score matching system that is not always as automatic as we'd like. However, we do start application review based on the unofficial scores on your application, so if we have those, there wouldn't be a delay on the start of your review. Does this help? You can also send an email to admissions1@seas.upenn.edu with your question.

I am not sure but I received this in the email. Masters Decisions (THIS HAS CHANGED) - Decisions for our on campus Master’s programs will be released on a rolling basis every Friday beginning Friday, January 31, 2020, to help applicants make the best decision about their graduate education. Please note that decisions will be released only after review committees thoroughly assess candidates. Decisions will be released on or before May 8, 2020. Please note that IPD decisions may be released after May 8, 2020.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
12:09
Umesh, I am familiar with that email; as I mentioned CIS program decisions will not be going out today. A rolling basis means that they can be released IF there are decisions to be released. Today, for those programs, there are not.

That's a relief. I've entered the unofficial scores with my application. Thank you, Will. Have a nice day.

Hello, someone might have asked this already, but for the “resear chi experience”, can I include my thesis research time as well or is that considered part of a class?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
12:17
Hi June. that's a great question: part-time research, for example during the school year, should be converted to full time (e.g., 15 hrs/week for 8 months = 3 months). Labs associated with a course, such as an organic chemistry course lab, should be excluded.
Does that help?

Hi Will, I am applying to the M:IPD program and I am unable to find where the official IELTS score should be sent(electronically or physically). Could you please help me with that? Thanks!
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

Hi Guest. They must be mailed, as we don't accept electronic scores. It should be mailed to the following address:
