Hi! I am applying for the CIS program and I have issues about the recommendation letter. One of my referees said he didn't receive the link. I wonder how to solve this problem? Thanks
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

Jinshu, you can ask her to check her spam mail. You can also log into your application account, go to your checklist and resend the link to her. You can also ask her for an alternate email address and then change the address the link is going to, again, on the checklist. Finally, you could have her contact the help desk at help@applyweb.com. However, if she's not receiving the link, I don't know what help they could provide.

Hi, I am trying to apply for 2 programs. How can I do this? Also, would my recommendation letters "carry over" from both applications? Or would I have to request my prof again?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:22
Fariha, you will need to submit one application before you can begin a second. If you want to use the same letters of recommendation for the 2nd application, you'd fill out the same information for Recommenders, and then select “No,” to the question, “Will this provider be submitting the letter of recommendation online?” Once you submit the application, you'll need to email admissions1@seas.upenn.edu and let us know you want to copy the letters of recommendation from your first application to the 2nd application.

Hi Will, is the Master's in ME admissions a rolling based process? Should it be strictly a resume to be uploaded or a 2 page  academic CV will also work fine?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:23
Hi Sahachar, it's not really a rolling basis, since the deadline is Saturday. Decisions are released on a rolling basis though, every Friday, until May 8. And we accept both resumes AND CVs. It is whichever you prefer.

Thanks for your response Will. I have sent the mail regarding the same

One follow up question: just to confirm, the recommendation requests already get sent to the recommender once I submit the recommender's information, and not after submitting the entire application, is that correct?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:24
Ashwin, yes, that's correct.

Hi Will, thank you for your reply! Currently, I have added some contents about my association leadership and volunteer teaching experience in my Personal Statement. In this case, should I still put them in my Resume. Or I should put another project which has been never mentioned in my application materials before?. Which one is preferred?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:26
Guest, we recommend listing all relevant experiences on your resume/CV. I'm not sure why you would leave off a project if you think it is relevant. Ultimately there are many schools of thought on how to construct a resume/cv. However, as I mentioned we look for well rounded applicants, those that can excel both inside and outside of the classroom.

Thank you Will for hosting this again! I am about to finalize my application and submit it, but I have a couple of questions. I'm currently in US and holding an F1 Visa valid for 5 years. In the application, there is a question for weather or not you need Penn to send you a Visa. Should I answer yes or no? I may need the I20 only!
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:27
Khalid, we would recommend that you say YES to that question. If nothing else, you'd need to transfer the visa to have Penn be the sponsoring institution. You can find more information here: https://global.upenn.edu/isss

I did a research internship at an institute (which is not my undergraduate institute), but it was a part of the undergraduate curriculum. I did with under the guidance of the other institute's research scientist. The other institute is a government research institute. Does an LOR from my research mentor counts an academic LOR ?                 Thanks for your patience on this.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:28
Hi Shubham, yes, that would count. However, we strongly recommend that at least one of the academic LORs can attest to your academic abilities in the classroom.

A follow up question: Does the review of applicatons for MS in ME start after the deadline or before?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:30
Sahachar, it may start before the deadline, but decisions won't be released for this program until next Friday at the earliest, so that the faculty may get a good a look at the overall applicant pool.

Hi Will. I am applying to the MSE in CBE. With regards to the GRE test score, I re-sat the test to increase my score and my score will be released after the deadline of the application.
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:31
Guest, we recommend you should list the unofficial score on your application. We recognize that it can take some time to get the official scores, so we will begin application reviews with the unofficial scores.

Hi Will, Where can I find information on class size and profile for MSE Data Science for batches before Fall 2020 ?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:33
Hi Shubham, this information isn't published on the web at this time. However, I can tell you that 40 students started in the program in Fall 2018, and 32 started it in Fall 2019.

Dear Will, thank you for helping us answering our questions at this stage, I have only one question regaring the ESE phd applicants, did you send any decision so far? when do you expect you will send the majorty decisions ? Are they released individually or on the same time to the students? Is there any specific deadline ?
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist

We don't offer funding for masters programs.
Guest
10:33
What the sources of funding at UPenn. What is the eligibility criteria
AvatarWill Fenton, Enrollment Specialist
10:34
Hi Guest. We have not yet begun to send out the ESE PhD decisions. All PhD decisions are sent out on a rolling basis and we do our best to release all decisions by the April 15 national deadline. As for funding, all PhDs are fully funded by the department for a minimum of 5 years, as long as the student is continuing to make good academic progress in the program.
