For the Red Sox to make a play on any of the SPs would fit for me.  Up to and including Corbin, really.  They are also candidates on any reliever, as well as any catcher.

Will Charlie Morton actually pitch somewhere else than Houston?
Steve Adams
2:17
He wants to be close to his wife's family in Delaware if he's not in Houston and has said as much publicly.
Tim Dierkes
2:17
We had him going back there until the Astros decided not to make the QO.  I don't know exactly why the team would make such a choice.

Why would the cubs want Cutch? The only guy I see them shufflythe out field deck for is Harper. Not Cutch. Please explain.
Steve Adams
2:18
Yeah -- Houston not making a QO stunned us
Tim Dierkes
2:19
It's not a pick I love.  But if the Cubs don't sign Harper or Machado, tell me how they reasonably improve their offense.  Cutch helps a bit.  I really don't see a ton of alternatives.  We kicked around Jed Lowrie but he just seemed like another Zobrist.  Arenado probably can't be had.  Steve even wondered if Paul Goldschmidt can play LF for a year.

Cutch to the Cubs in your predictions.  Guessing he plays LF.  What is your guess on the corresponding move? Schwarber, Happ, Almora?
Tim Dierkes
2:19
I'd put Cutch in RF, Heyward/Almora in CF, and then decide whether to trade Happ or Schwarbs.
Steve Adams
2:19
Yep
Tim Dierkes
2:20
I guess I'd shop both and make the decision after that.  Even potentially keeping both.
Steve Adams
2:20
Cutch isn't an MVP candidate anymore but can still hit
And his hard-hit data, batted-ball profile, etc. give a lot of optimism
Brodie
2:20
Can you give an educated guess as to total dollars, years, potential suitors and eventual team for Nelson Cruz? Any chance he gets 3 yrs.????
Steve Adams
2:20
Yeah Cubs have never seemed to mind having more bodies than traditional playing time distribution would call for
Tim Dierkes
2:20
We went 2/30 to Twins.  I do not see three years.  You need an open DH spot.  Astros, White Sox could work.  Rays.
Steve Adams
2:20
We kind of did all that in our Top 50 rankings last Friday
Jays

Do you see Giles being traded? He is set to make around $6mil while is way cheaper than a lot of the top free agent RPs will go for
Tim Dierkes
2:21
I think they keep him...their bullpen is threadbare.
Dick Williams
2:21
Would Donaldson possibly entertain a move to the outfield? I feel like it could be less stress on him physically and better at keeping that bat in the lineup.
Steve Adams
2:21
Agreed on Giles -- not like his value is at its apex wither
either*
Tim Dierkes
2:21
Seems like OF would be hard on him.  I think half 3B/half DH would be ideal.
MLBTR FA LIST PREDICTION
2:21
Any regrets, and did you read the comment section on that..? Appreciate you worked hard, but pretty brutal...
Steve Adams
2:22
Yeah -- I don't see running down fly balls in the gap as going easy on his calf or making throws from LF easy on his shoulder
It's brutal every year
We recognize that we're just going to be called idiots on an annual basis. It's a masochistic exercise in many ways.

I read the comments section a bit that night, and then I stopped and haven't since.  I saw a lot of "my team didn't get the star players!" or Bryce/Manny will sign for $200MM type stuff.  And it did not seem worth engaging on.
2:23
So this chat gives us a little more space for nuance.  Hey, if you've got a case against something, I'd like to hear it.  I was pondering Trevor Cahill and I might have gone a bit lower than $22MM.  Not sure that's a regret though.

Why does Anibal sanchez get 2 years 22 million and Clay Buccholz stays on the honorable mentions list? Basically asking what’s the big difference between the two. Thanks
Steve Adams
2:23
I liked Harper to the Nats more than any other team but couldn't make a significant case against the Dodgers.
Anibal!
My guy!

Buchholz ended his season with a strained flexor mass in his elbow.
Rangers fan
2:24
Rangers will sign Garrett Richards,  James Sheilds and back load a contract for Patrick Corbin when both Beltre and Choo are off the books. Your thoughts
Steve Adams
2:24
Anibal Sanchez allowed fewer hard contact than any pitcher in MLB last season -- it was crazy
Tim Dierkes
2:24
We don't see the Rangers being that active.  The first two I can see, although it's not a great place for Shields.  Not Corbin though.
Yasmani Grandal
2:24
Any chance I end up in Oakland on maybe a two-year deal?
Steve Adams
2:24
The cutter he added was a buzzsaw. No pitcher had a lower exit velocity allowed and he was something like top 5% of the league in lowest percentage of barreled balls allowed -- he went bonkers
No way Grandal takes two years, I don't think
