I put the chances of Harper staying in DC higher than signing with the Phillies, i personally feel the phillies are 5th on the list. 1. nats 2. dodgers 3.cubs 4.giants 5.phillies  If he is to leave the divison, I would say the dodgers are the most realistic fit financially and competitive wise. Agree?
Tim Dierkes
2:36
I think everyone has a different ordering on that list.  Steve likes the case for the Nats re-signing him more than Jeff and I do.
Steve Adams
2:36
I don't see any reason to think the Phillies would be so far down that list.
Go Nats
2:36
How did you come up with the Dodgers offering Harper such a large contract when they haven’t given out a $100m contract with this front office?
Steve Adams
2:37
And yeah, you'd get a different order from all three of us -- but really, that's fluid, and there's so much guesswork in these things.
Tim Dierkes
2:37
Isn't there a first $100MM contract for everyone?
Steve Adams
2:37
Harper unique. Owners making decision over Friedman. Also -- yes, first time for everything

Rays have a surprising amount of payroll room, have PLENTY of depth, and could use some legitimate all-stars. Any chance the Rays can entice both Grandal and Donaldson to sign with 3/54?
Steve Adams
2:38
We kicked around something like Donaldson or a big-name FA to TB. Wouldn't shock me but I'd be surprised to see it over three years, personally.
Tim Dierkes
2:38
I think with Grandal, you can probably just add a few more bucks and take the fourth year.  JD works there.
Steve Adams
2:38
Plus if you're JD coming off a bum calf -- going to play on more turf probably doesn't sound great

If you were the Yankees and only getting one - Corbin (costs draft pick) or Kikuchi (never pitched in MLB) which would you go after, and why?
Tim Dierkes
2:38
Corbin - higher chance of immediate success.

14 years?
2:39
You really don't believe that a baseball franchise, with all the advance statistics available, would sign ANYONE for 14 years do you?
Tim Dierkes
2:39
Why is 10 years better or more likely?
Steve Adams
2:39
If we didn't think he was going to sign a precedent-shattering deal, we wouldn't have predicted it.
Bob Pollard's No HItter

Friedman regime hasn't really acted as wildly as you predict they will w/r/t Harper, what leads you to believe that will change this offseason, for that particular player, or was it a matter of merely a late hour pivot to another big market team after the Cubs acted as they did with Smyly?
Steve Adams
2:40
Harper and Machado are the two most premium free agents, given their ages, since A-Rod nearly two decades ago. Why are we thinking in conventional contract norms in these cases? Especially, again, when agents are going to spend a lot of time pitching directly to the team owners.
Tim Dierkes
2:41
There is an element of a late hour pivot, but I also do like the pick.  I actually don't think 14/420 is wild for Bryce at all.  Take a guy who is 5 wins at age 26, run a typical aging curve, and that can be worth anywhere from $375-500MM.  Each team is going to have their own aging curve on that equation.

I know that trades and FAs are different, but if Bumgarner is made available where would he rank amongst SP targets? Pitching is really *really* thin this year now that Kershaw reupped with the Dodgers.
Steve Adams
2:42
I don't think people emphasize age enough with regard to Harper and Manny. These guys are hitting FA at the same age Aaron Judge was starting his sophomore season. That's utter insanity.
Tim Dierkes
2:42
Think I'd slot MadBum in right after Corbin.

Tim Dierkes

It doesn't have a count up, but there are about 1,000 people in the chat room.

Why am I on the honorable mention list (which means you guys think I'll get $5M or less) when Anibal Sanchez is getting $22MM and Matt Harvey and Trevor Cahill are getting the same?

Anibal, Harvey, and Cahill are presumably healthy Opening Day.

Would Adam Jones be ranked higher if he could still play CF?
Tim Dierkes
2:43
Of course, but he can't.
Steve Adams
2:43
Yeah

Saw a prediction elsewhere that the Cubs would eat some darvish money and trade him back to Texas.  Without trading Choo, is that even something they
Tim Dierkes
2:43
Darvish's value could not be lower than it is right now.  I don't see it.
Steve Adams
