It's possible, and the Yankees are one of the few teams I think could do this. Rangers would work, too.
Phillies as well, sure.

What are the odds that the Mets pull a trigger on a big bat like Castellanos?
Tim Dierkes
1:53
I don't like the Mets to sign a player who turned down a QO, as it would require forfeiting the #14 pick in next year's draft.
Angel
1:53
This is the first place i read about Javy Baez not coming back to the Mets. 20 Mill a year is a low #. I think he's going to get a lot more than $150. Don't count the Yankees out either.
Steve Adams
1:53
They already have a lot of defensively challenged corner types. It's why I picked them for Marte.

And yeah, Tim's point on draft compensation is vital to consider with the Mets this winter.
Tim Dierkes
1:54
I've seen a lot of variance on Baez predictions across the internet.  We're not huge on him, and in fact I had to talk Steve and Anthony into going to 5/100.  Kind of hard to invest more in such a volatile player.
Steve Adams
1:55
Baez/Mets would be fine for me. I just like the outfield need more, but if he signs a new long-term deal with the Mets, I won't be surprised.

I think one thing that's overlooked when we make these picks is that while we all have to choose one team in the end, we simultaneously agree that we're picking one out of what could be four, five, six, etc. very legitimate possibilites.

Tigers are just about getting out from under the Cabrera contract. Does a long-term contract for Correa make sense? How close are the Tigers to playoff contention?
Tim Dierkes
1:56
I find the Cabrera contract very different.  That was a 1B/DH type signing an eight-year deal starting with his age-33 season.  In 2021, that entire concept seems nuts.  With Correa you're talking age 27 through maybe 36, and a guy who can stick at SS for most of that time.
Steve Adams
1:57
Makes as much (or more) sense there, with a blank payroll slate, as anywhere else.

Correa is young. The Tigers would be getting all of his prime years to pair with a promising core that's percolating to the Majors.

The Miggy deal shouldn't be compared to it. I never understood why they extended him when they still had multiple years of control and the contract was starting in his mid-30s.

Anthony Franco sees that Boston will sign Freeman, care to give some insight about it?
Steve Adams
1:58
Anthony's pick was less about Boston specifically and more about his belief that if it's Braves or the field, he'd take the field.
Tim Dierkes
1:58
I admire Anthony for not making the safe choice there.  He's trying to symbolically take the field over the Braves for Freeman, which I think is defensible.  The Braves did let Freeman get this far.
Steve Adams
1:59
Yeah. I kind of applaud the boldness. Although I think I'm more "Braves are inevitable" than either Tim or Anthony

I still don't expect the Guardians to spend big regardless of the basically open ledger they have for the future, but do you think they could be sneaky contenders for Schwarber?
jamoche1
1:59
Your list has Mark Canha going to the Guardians. Is that the best they can dddo? Don't you think Conforto would be a better fit?
Tim Dierkes
2:00
It's been a while since that franchise went big on a free agent, and when they did it didn't go all that well.  But if Schwarbs drops below 60 mil or something, I could see it.  And Conforto makes even more sense to me.
Steve Adams
2:00
Canha's really underrated in my view. But sure, Conforto works. I just thought he'd want as hitter-friendly a spot as possible, and it's easier for me to see the White Sox putting down $20MM than the Guardians.

I always imagine you guys write the questions you want to answer under different user names to keep it easy.
Steve Adams

I hope that's actually Jeff
Tim Dierkes
2:00
Please really be Jeff Todd.  We miss you dude.  But nah, there are 600+ people in the chat, I'm just grabbing them as they pass by.

Rodon to jays 3 years 60. Who says no? If Medicals not a disaster could be perfect for jays financial window.
Steve Adams
2:01
Works on both ends for me if the Jays are willing to take the medical risk.
Tim Dierkes
2:01
If the Jays are willing to do this, I think you've got a deal.  Not sure on their risk tolerance, but I'm OK with it.

You guys did  not have him in your top 50 but how much guaranteed money you fellas think Aaron Loup gets this winter?
Tim Dierkes
2:01
2/12 or 2/14 I'd say
Steve Adams
2:01
Yeah him and Chafin both in that range works for me.
A's fan
2:02
LOL to the idea that the A's will sign Cobb for $8mil a year
Steve Adams
2:02
I was a little more bullish on Chafin than Tim/Anthony. I could see him doing pretty well. But it's a deep class and some solid relievers have to get left off.
Tim Dierkes
2:02
I assume the logic there was after unloading a ton of salary, the A's toss a few bucks to a free agent.
Steve Adams
2:02
I mean they're going to trade away enough people that they'll have money, and someone's got to pick up the innings they lose via trade.
I didn't pick them to sign anyone, but I don't think Anthony's logic was nuts there.
Bauer precedent
2:03
Denny Neagle’s contract was voided by the Rockies when he paid for services with a hooker.  They used a good citizenship morals clause in the contract. Eventually a settlement was made and some of the value of the contract was never paid.
Tim Dierkes
2:03
Perhaps, but that was a long time ago and there is a domestic violence policy in place already to deal with this.  Part of that is that after a suspension the player is in good standing.
Dave Evans
2:04
Am I crazy but is Baez a better fit than Correa for the Tigers? More power , better fielder and a lot cheaper
Tim Dierkes
2:04
I certainly don't mind the fit, but the idea of making a much larger commitment to Correa is that he is a much better player/investment
Steve Adams
2:04
I think any of the top five shortstops are a good fit there. Correa is a better player, though.
2:05
By a wide margin, in my view.
Angels not gonna have a big offseason?
2:05
The Angels need a lot of help but none of you predict they will sign hardly anyone. The biggest head scratcher is not bringing back Raisel Iglesias. This would make not trading him at the deadline one of the worst things this franchise has done or not done. As an Angels fan, it doesn't seem like Arte Moreno knows what he is doing.
