We put Walker at 4/52 *because* he didn't get the QO
With a QO, his prediction would've been at three years
Probably a comparable AAV though
Anthony Franco
9:24
Yeah not getting the QO helped differentiate him from the other mid-tier starters and kicked him up a year
Tim Dierkes
9:25
None of us really like Taijuan as a player or signing.  Heyman's contract predictor put 5/70 there, which, hey, good for Boras if that happens.

I just want to say "Thank you" to Tim for having the A's sign one of the Top 50 free agents on the market.

Always looking out

The Red Sox aren't listed a ton on here, Senga being the only big move they are connected to.  With the amount of money they have coming off the books, but no big FA signings, do you guys think they go into the year well under the CBT threshold?
Tim Dierkes
9:26
We generally believe that if they keep coming up short on Xander, they would not pivot to one of the other three SS.  Signing just about any of the SPs is plausible to me.  Contreras works too.
Worth considering that they have to give up their second and fifth round draft picks if they sign a QO FA.
Anthony Franco
9:27
Yeah I think if they miss on Xander they just sign or trade for a bunch of good but not great players, kind of similar to how they built their rotation last year

I had Rodon there at one point and considered Contreras. I just also feel the Story deal is an outlier under Bloom so far and we have minimal history of major spending. Plus if they're serious about extending Devers, his luxury hit is going to more than double, so there's that to consider re: luxury tax.
What Anthony said.

Good Morning. How realistic is Segura and Conforto for the White Sox?
Steve Adams
9:28
I can see that
Tim Dierkes
9:28
Both reasonable, but financially things are pretty tight.  I had Benintendi there but reconsidered.
Anthony Franco
9:29
Either one seems plausible. Both feels high to me given Hahn's comments about preferring trades to free agency and James Fegan reporting they want to cap things around $180MM to start the year
Steve Adams
9:29
Pollock opting out was such a gift to them
Rays
9:29
Obviously the Rays need offensive help. Could you see them addressing this with a low to mid end bat? Maybe Michael Brantley?
Steve Adams
9:29
Eh, I'm of the mind that they can whittle that down with trades if they want, and Segura/Conforto isn't so steep that you need to get crazy to make it work
Tim Dierkes
9:29
I had Brantley there with Joc on the Cards.  Then Joc got the QO, so I had to put him on the Giants and decided to move Brantley off there, because the Rays seem more likely to go cheaper for the LH bat.
Steve Adams
9:30
Yeah, Brantley works in TB for me
Tim Dierkes
9:30
Or just do a trade...Rays aren't huge in FA.
I'd be suspicious in getting trade offers from the Rays
Anthony Franco
9:30
Brantley's plausible, although I actually wouldn't be surprised if they took a bigger swing this year in FA
Steve Adams
9:30
Opposite ends of the spectrum from Tim and Anthony!

Profar would be a nice addition to Boston. Especially if they move Story to SS.
Steve Adams
9:30
Oops
Tim Dierkes
9:30
We can talk Profar for a minute though
Steve Adams
9:30
I published that by accident -- sorry. Been trying to let Tim grab them, haha, but here we are!
9:31
In short, I disagree. Profar cannot play 2B
Anthony Franco
9:31
"Accidentally published"
Steve Adams
9:31
He was a shortstop/2B for much of his career, got the yips with the A's and was moved off the position
Anthony Franco
9:31
Nothing to do with Steve wanting to talk about how Profar's overrated
Tim Dierkes
9:31
None of us like Profar as a player.  I had to push to get him to 2/20 from 2/17 as our prediction.  Seeing predictions of 3+ years, or $15 mil per year, just confounded us.
Steve Adams
9:31
Ha, a happy accident? I'm sure he's a fine dude, he's just ... not a good player.
Anthony Franco
9:32
I like him more than Steve and Tim do, but I agree he can't play the infield anymore
I think he's a perfectly fine everyday left fielder. Boring but serviceable
Steve Adams
9:32
I mean, he's a boring, fine player. But he can't play the infield anymore and I don't at all understand seeing other free-agent lists pitch him as a desirable player on a three- or four-year term. That's all nuts.
Padres 2023

What does the Padres signing of Suarez tell you about the Padres plans this off season? Do you think they are in on big name free agents?
