Those saying May will just stay if it's 2/14 make a good point.  We had him at 3/24 for most of October, and I think got stuck in the thinking that the Twins would let him walk at that price.

Thoughts on a Mariners reunion with either Paxton or Walker?
Tim Dierkes
2:09
Both of those seem plausible.  Mariners have the money and could fit one in.

Saw Alex Colome was projected on a 1yr/6mil deal and couldn’t believe it... he might not be a star but he’s been consistently good and coming off a great year
Tim Dierkes
2:09
He was a late salary cut for me.  I think I had around 2/16 for him. Then I thought...why would you pass on Hand at 1/10 and sign Colome for 2/16?  Didn't compute.

Would Profar make sense as a bench piece for the Dodgers?
Tim Dierkes
2:10
I can see him plugging in nicely, but as Jeff Todd once said, the Dodgers seem to grow guys like that on trees.  They don't need to pay up for Profar.

Does a Trade of Lindor effect the market?
Tim Dierkes
2:11
Absolutely.  It's likely Lindor does get traded, and he's much better than any FA shortstop.  So if you're the Angels, Reds, Phillies, Yankees, Blue Jays, etc, and you're pondering a decent contract for Didi, you need to see what the price is for Lindor.

How likely do you think it is SD cuts or trades one of Pham or Myers?
Tim Dierkes
2:11
I think they will shop Myers and find no takers, and will non-tender Pham.

How much do you expect if Semien & Simmons gets multi-year deal?
Tim Dierkes
2:12
I topped out at 3/39 for Semien.  Steve thinks he will do much better than that and will prefer a multiyear deal, and I've seen that on FA lists from other sites as well.  So maybe I'm just missing the boat there.
Simmons I might max out at 2/24 or so.  He's got health questions to answer.
Braves 2021
2:13
You have Ozuna to the Nationals at 72 mm for four years: the Braves were supposedly willing to go to a higher AAV on Donaldson for three years, and he was four years older than Ozuna. Why wouldn't the Braves match your projected value for Ozuna given the lack of quality bats in the trade or FA market?
Tim Dierkes
2:13
Seems like the Braves generally don't like longer commitments like that.
Disgruntled Phillies Phan

Why was Didi not worth a 1 year QO? The Phillies need a shortstop and another lefty bat in the line-up. Their top position prospect is a SS but is a year or so away. A Didi 1 year offer, if he accepted, would've been a great fit.
Tim Dierkes
2:14
The choice not to make a QO to Didi was definitely a risk-averse one by the Phillies, and perhaps an indication that money will be tight this winter.  And I think he probably would have turned it down!

The Twins/Wes Johnson seem to be on the analytical side, could there be a fit there for Bauer?
Tim Dierkes
2:15
Yes, from a team standpoint I think the Twins check every box for Bauer (plus, an Indians connection).  Would they thrown down $30MM+/year for a starting pitcher?  Would be a new level for them, but it's not crazy.
Holey Noley
2:15
Why are your numbers out of order?  You have a $10M deal above some $16M deals, for example.
Tim Dierkes
2:16
For some players, I predicted a one-year contract while thinking they have the earning power to get more money.  Like if we had said Trevor Bauer will sign for one year and $40MM, I'd still think he has more earning power than Marcell Ozuna.
Thank you, Jon

Is Jon Lester buying almost $50K of beers for Cubs fans (and freeloading others) this weekend his way of telling the masses that he already knows and has spoken to the team and knows they aren’t signing him any further?
Tim Dierkes
2:17
That was an awesome gesture, wasn't it?  We had Lester-Cubs as our pick for a while, but I decided I couldn't quite see it.  Still, everything either side has said publicly suggests it's still in play.

Do you think Arenado gets traded?  Best fits?
Tim Dierkes
2:17
I think he stays.  $35MM salary, pandemic, worst season of his career.
Rick Hahn

Can I afford to resign McCann and Colome?
Tim Dierkes
2:18
Colome, sure, though they may prefer some other RP.  McCann just doesn't make sense there, he needs to go be a starting catcher somewhere.

Will my past continue to haunt me in Chicago?
Tim Dierkes

Wherever Springer goes, if he hits, the hometown fans will totally embrace him.

You mentioned putting a ceiling on all relievers except Hendriks but...Hendriks at 3/30 seems incredibly low for the best reliever in baseball over the past 2 seasons! I'm not a fan of spending a ton of money on relievers, but he seems like the type of reliever to spend on if you're going to. Why does he get 3M/year less than Will Smith?
Tim Dierkes
2:19
Hendriks getting less than Will Smith would be entirely a function of teams slashing payroll in light of having no gate revenue in 2020 and reduced gate revenue in '21.

You really have Realmuto to the Mets?  He clearly has shown his disinterest i. playing there.  I probably would say Angels.
Tim Dierkes
2:20
Has he?  What I read on that topic was a pretty loose rumor, not something that would make me think he wouldn't take their money.  Angels are a JTR fit, but Stassi and Bemboom were actually solid this year and I think they have bigger needs.
Jonny
2:20
Angels badly need to invest in pitching. Bauer is a perfect fit.
Tim Dierkes
2:21
I don't want to put too much weight on our picks in our list...for just about every player, there are many teams we think make sense.  On the Angels...sure, they could go over the top and get Bauer, but it takes two to tango.

Might another wife or girlfriend convince or husband that the WhiteSox are NOT the place  to play? Last year it was Zack Wheeler and the year before, Manny Machado.
Tim Dierkes
2:22
I don't think that's true of Machado.  The Padres offered significantly more money on him, simple as that.  White Sox weren't even close.
On Wheeler, the offers were pretty close, he didn't sacrifice a ton of money to go to Philly.

Porcello going back to Detroit? That's calling a longshot.
