IIRC, they didn't prorate days on suspensions in the shortened 2020 but did call it completed for anyone who missed the whole year
2:22
They got suspended for 80 games when it was supposed to be a 162-game schedule, sat out all of the 60-game season, then were allowed to return in 2021
2:23
But Laureano's isn't that. He's just going to miss a few more weeks. My guess would be he'll have to serve it in full still

With the revelation that as many as twelve owners oppose raising the luxury tax ceiling to 220 million, how is there ever going to be an agreement with the MLBPA?
Anthony Franco
2:23
Somebody's going to have to budge, really
2:24
It's a simple fact that if more than eight owners won't sign a deal with a CBT above $220MM and the union won't sign one at below $230MM, there can't be a deal
2:25
But it's easier to take a hard-line stance while you're not losing money. At some point, one of the sides is probably going to blink and move a little to get a deal done
2:26
If a $10MM gap in the 2022 luxury tax costs the league a whole season, that'd be absurd. Not saying it can't happen because people are stubborn, but that really shouldn't be too hard to work around. Just need cooler heads to prevail

What happened in the one on one meeting between Halem and the PA rep?
Anthony Franco
2:27
Not clear. Guessing they discussed where each side is at on the issues they don't feel they can move on and tried to ballpark a timetable for when they might reignite talks
A 90-minute informal chat between Halem and Meyer was never going to be the catalyst for a breakthrough. Just be glad they're still talking at all

Anthony, Arte Moreno will never spend over the luxury tax limit, saying that, I don’t see a way that the Angels can build a winning team year after year with the Trout and Rendon contracts plus the fifty million a year for Ohtani., not to mention the weak Minor League system. Your thoughts?
Anthony Franco
2:28
I don't think they have a great long-term outlook but I'm not quite as pessimistic about them as you are in the next year or two
2:29
I've said a few times I actually think the rotation will be alright this year. If Trout and Rendon stay healthy and they get a reasonably competent shortstop, I think they'd hang around the playoff bubble
2:30
That's a few "ifs" and I probably wouldn't project them as a playoff team in 2022, but I think they're likelier to be better than the Rangers and A's this season
A's because of the anticipated sell-off. Oakland's roster is better than Anaheim's right now IMO

Do you think Jeter's leaving was ted to the labor dispute in any way?  Do we know what his position is regarding the negotiations?
Anthony Franco
2:31
We do not, no real reason for Jeter to say much of anything
2:32
A few players certainly were of the opinion Jeter was fed up with the lockout. Maybe that's true, but Craig Mish of SportsGrid pushed back really hard on the idea that Jeter was making any kind of labor statement
On his podcast this week, Mish (who first broke the news of Jeter's departure) characterized it as more of an issue of personalities not meshing behind the scenes in Miami than anything else

I’m a big fan of Bobby Dalbec. I’m hoping the Red Sox are patient with him and let him shore up the holes in his approach. Is this realistic?
Anthony Franco
2:33
I'm a Dalbec skeptic, just because the bat-to-ball skills are so rough
2:34
Personally, I'd look into upgrades there. But I wouldn't say it's a given that they will do that, and there's room for Dalbec on the long-term roster if he does make the strides you suggest
2:35
Triston Casas is coming obviously, but he's not a sure thing (just because no prospect is, not an indictment on Casas specifically). And even if Casas hits the ground running, they can let Martinez walk next winter and have Casas/Dalbec split first base and DH

do all of the owners have to agree in order to reach an agreement or just a majority of them
Anthony Franco
2:35
The league needs approval from 23 of the 30 ownership groups to agree to its end of the CBA
Kershaw
2:35
Will I just retire or sign with Texas rather than resign with the dodgers
Anthony Franco
2:36
I'd lean Dodgers still but it does seem like they and the Rangers are the only teams that feel like they've got much of a chance
2:37
I would be really surprised if Kershaw retires. His most recent public comments don't sound like those of someone about to step away
Paul
2:37
I notice that there are certain owners who don’t want to spend money and are holding back an agreement. Cant any pressure be put on them
Anthony Franco
2:38
By fans, no. I'm sure less hawkish owners have tried to persuade them to move on certain things behind the scenes (apparently unsuccessfully thus far)
I think it's likelier the eventual CBA will just be agreed upon over the objections of guys like Kendrick and Castellini

2:38
Any way we can see a list or ranking of top NPB/KBO players so we know who to look out for in upcoming years while we still get our baseball fix?
Anthony Franco
2:39
That's more of a prospect coverage thing we're not really equipped to handle, since we don't have as many connections with scouts in Asia that sites like Baseball America do

2:39
Describe the chaos when 30 MLB teams are suddenly allowed to make trades and sign free agents and actually get players into camps for spring training.  Which team will do it best?
Anthony Franco
2:40
Ha, even the teams themselves have no idea who's going to be the best at navigating the chaos. If I had to guess, I'd just pick the ones that are most motivated to spend money for immediate upgrades
Phillies, Giants, maybe the Twins and Yankees

Further to the Kyle Farmer comment, what if the Jays went after him for a stop gap at third and then push hard for Ketel Marte for second (backup center field) figuring Biggio/Kirk/Kloffenstien be the start of a package then work on pitching depth instead of signing Kris Bryant or Chapman.
Anthony Franco
2:41
I don't think that package would be enough to entice Arizona to move Marte
