Jazz isn't someone the Sox would be able to get, and Ketel just signed an extension in March.

I look back to 2007, which was a year they lost 92 games after winning 90 in '06. They came back in 2008 and won the division with much of the same team. I believe that this past season was a learning experience for many of these players and I know that none of them want to go through the same season they just had. I believe, that they'll come to spring training in better shape and with a new attitude. There is still a lot of talent on this ball club. Grandal just had a horrendous year, but he wasn't healthy at all. When he is healthy, he's proved that he will play well. He's also playing in his walk year which might help motivate him. Same for many of the other core players that stunk this past year. A new voice in the dugout along with some new coaches will help as well bring a new culture to this team. The Sox need some tweaking, not an overhaul. A left handed bat, no more first basemen in the OF, a better second basemen, a little more speed and better communication which will lead to better defense.

I like the optimism and this is how I expect things to play out.  Unless Hahn surprises us with some trades.

Cavan Biggio for Kendalll Graveman?
Tim Dierkes
10:12
Fun idea!  But if you're hawking four years of Biggio, even after a couple disappointing years, you can do better than Graveman on a 2/16 contract.
The Jays can just go sign a free agent reliever for 2/16 and quite possibly get similar results.  Graveman is a perfectly cromulent RP, but not a bargain.

Do you think the CWS call jose quintana and give him a multi year deal for small money and trade giolito for an mlb ready catcher and a top prospect pitcher?
Tim Dierkes
10:13
Bring Q back for two years and mid-20 mil range?  I can see that.
I think you're overstating Gio's value a bit and how hard it is to find available MLB-ready catchers, especially when you're sending back one year of a guy coming off a down year.

Teoscar Hernandez for Lucas Giolito?
Tim Dierkes
10:15
On the surface, I kinda dig this, except that it doesn't help the OF defense much.
What say you Moncada?
10:15
Did you say 100MM+ for Nimmo? Really? What comps are you using to get to 100MM?
Tim Dierkes
10:17
I'd say a combo of factors.  The comp is probably Dexter Fowler plus six years of inflation.  Throw in Boras and the lack of viable CF alternatives and we think Nimmo gets to 100.

If I get my BB rate to league average or better, I'll win the CYA next year. T/F?
Tim Dierkes
10:17
I can endorse that
Dave
10:17
Does Cueto get a multiyear deal somewhere?
Tim Dierkes
10:18
At almost 37 years old, with so few missed bats, I lean toward no.  But could someone throw him 2/16 or something, I suppose it's possible.

If an Anderson trade were to happen, who would want him and what do you think the return would/should be given he is as bad as people are saying he is.
Tim Dierkes
10:20
He's a 29-year-old SS who is probably good for 125 games and will make $26.5MM over the next two years.  I'd feel pretty good about getting 4 WAR from him in 2023.
10:22
Anyone with a big SS up for FA would be an option: Braves, Red Sox, Twins, Dodgers.  Yankees, Orioles, and Cubs make some sense to me, off the cuff.
I don't have an instant answer for you on what the return would be.  I think TA is a really good player with plenty of surplus value

This will never happen, but the White Sox should fire Hahn and Williams and go get Stearns since he seemingly is available now. But anyway, what surprise player could be traded this offseason from the White Sox and what could they seemingly get for said surprise player?
Tim Dierkes
10:23
Hiring Stearns would be a bold, interesting move for the White Sox.
10:24
We've talked about Giolito or Moncada being traded.  Not crazy.  Some people have mentioned trying to cash in Hendriks.  I find that plausible if not likely
Too optimistic??
10:24
Basically everything went wrong for the Sox this year from injuries, underperformance, and poor coaching and yet still we’re 81-81.
Seems to me a little regression to the mean and better

And Reinsdorf said in 2017 that Ozzie wouldn't manage the Sox again. I'd be surprised if he changes his mind. The longer this draws out the more it will likely be Espada or, I guess, Kevin Long who's name has been mentioned.
Tim Dierkes
10:25
Then why would you interview Ozzie now???

Hi Tim. I know you said you're not a big manager guy so apologies for another manager question. There seems to be a trend of going younger. Any former Sox players in the game as coaches currently or that have the chops that might help with a culture change, presence in the clubhouse and voice for the players?
Tim Dierkes

If anyone has suggestions on this send 'em in

Why not Joey Cora as manager?

Also, what happened to Hensley Meulens? I always thought he should get a shot at managing...
My vote for manager...Curtis Gradnderson
All the moncada questions
10:25
Is he a realistic trade target?
Tim Dierkes
10:26
Yes, I think Moncada could be had.  Good way for the Sox to clear some payroll and reboot, and Burger could be a competent 3B.
Not White Sox Dave

Is John Cusak allowed to root for the Chi Sox and the Cubs?
Tim Dierkes
10:26
Yes.  With age I have decided that no one should tell someone how to root.

Girardi is an interesting choice. Chicago native
Tim Anderson
10:27
So you just give up and move on from him like that?
Tim Dierkes
10:27
I don't think they do.  Lot of people in this chat want them to

How likely/possible would it be to tie prospects to a Pollock, or Diekman, just to shed their contracts for some payroll flexibility? Who might the takers be?
Tim Dierkes
10:27
This does happen in baseball, but pretty rarely.  And I don't recall the White Sox doing it
