It bothers me when people judge Moncada by his injuries. He's great defensively and his hitting vastly improved toward the end of the season. I don't think letting him go would be "a bad contract traded for another bad contract." He's still a valuable player, in my view. Your thoughts?
Tim Dierkes
11:39
I mean, how often is he fully healthy?  But he is a guy who was pretty damn good in 2019 and 2021; he's had more success than Jimenez.
As far as his end-of-season run, it did come with a 33% strikeout rate.  I don't think he has the power to succeed with that.

The SS market is beyond barren.  It's worth a shot to keep TA and hope he gets back to previous levels of production.

Should the White Sox exercise TA's option?

Should the Sox pursue Ohtani?
Tim Dierkes
11:41
No.  For one, it's a poor use of time when they have so much to do and he's so unlikely to sign there.  Two, say the required overbid is actually only $600MM or something.  The key years are the prime ones, and the team is so bad that you'd likely waste them.

Of all the Offseason Chats you have had (and will have), which fan base seems to be the most angry or jaded (in your opinion)?
Tim Dierkes
11:42
We will have to put our heads together and assess that, since it's a bunch of us doing them.  And I only do two.

Any chance Jerry and I can go live on a private island, swimming in pools of $100 bills, and enjoying our money without breaking the hearts of our fanbase every year?

As a Twins fan, is there any reason not to be giddy about the current state of the White Sox?
Tim Dierkes
11:43
OK that's just salt in the wound.  Take your playoff win and be happy Adam.

Do you think it is time for the Sox to give up on Kopech in the rotation and move him to the bullpen. His numbers were ugly, he seems to be fragile physically, and even his famed fastball averaged only what, 94mph?
Tim Dierkes
11:45
I agree that there isn't much cause for optimism.  But they just hired Bannister, who knew him a bit in Boston.  There's little to lose in seeing if Banny can figure anything out with him.  If they give up on starting midseason or in a year, no real harm done.

White Sox have quietly added positions in the front office for analysts and biomechanics, but are still behind the curve.

Crazy, out of the box idea: If the Angels are willing to eat money to move Trout, should the Sox be interested? Still dangerous when healthy and he'd be their first capable RF since Jermaine Dye (feels like that at least).
Tim Dierkes
11:47
Acquiring a star somewhat on the downside is a classic Sox move.  I think one impediment is that I can't see why Trout would approve a trade to the White Sox.

Tim, are you a White Sox fan? *hug* I am so sorry if you are

I'm 41 years old and I'm in a weird place on fandom.  I'm not really a journalist so it's not the cynicism that grinds out their fandom, but maybe in the same neighborhood.
11:49
I am actually a longtime Cubs fan, and I think you could still call me a Cubs fan.  But it didn't bother me much when they collapsed in September, so I'm not nearly as invested as I once was.
11:50
On the Sox, I used to be childishly anti-Sox, like annoyed that their '05 parade was happening outside my office.  I am way over that now.  I own a Sox hat, I like going to Sox games, and I'd be fine with them winning.
I kind of don't care that much about the outcomes and just want to be entertained by the Chicago teams.

What would be a reasonable return for Eloy?
Tim Dierkes
11:51
I didn't want to duck this question even though I don't have a good answer to it off the top of my head.
11:52
Eloy will be 27 soon.  He is or should be a DH-only player coming off a 105 wRC+ season.  He has never played more than 122 games in a season or been worth 2 WAR.
He's flashed brilliance in 2020 and 2022 and has good Statcast numbers, so other teams could certainly see upside.
11:53
His guaranteed money is down to $16MM.  You get club options on '25 and '26, which could be interesting with a 2024 breakout/healthy year.
11:55
Could you get someone with one year of control like John Means for him?  (Not that the O's need him)
11:56
Could you get a guy with a couple years of control like Ranger Suarez (not that the Phillies need him)
11:57
Someone like Jose Urquidy or Ty France?
11:58
I am trying to think of guys with a few years of control who are OK but not great.

Vaughn or Eloy centered package for Cronenworth...
Tim Dierkes
11:59
I dunno.  Eloy's commitment is flexible, whereas Cronenworth has the full seven years and $80MM coming to him and was not good this year.  Kind of a rough return
If you have Eloy trade ideas, send 'em into the chat!

is Eloy basically just Carlos Lee? A lazy, happy go lucky home run hitter who won’t ever be what we dreamed?
Tim Dierkes
12:01
well, who is the modern day Scott Podsednik?
12:02
Might I add that Scotty only costs $40 on Cameo?
It's Esteury Ruiz isn't it

He upped his price then bought my wife a Pods birthday shoutout last year for 30
